Default Information on class to race the EK with d-series engine

Hey guys I have a good condition 96 Civic Hatchback and a 1988 Turbo Supra. I have done 3 track days with the Supra and really enjoy it but am starting to think about upgrading the suspension on my EK and tracking it. Here are my questions...

Speedventures has a Honda FF Challenge but in the lowest class I still have enough points left to add shocks, and a motor swap.

1. Is it possible to hang with the b16/b18 on the track with an upgraded d-series ( cams, intake, exhaust (free mods,no points) and weight reduction) and upgraded suspension?

2. I drive my car daily so what would be some other classes I could do time attack etc in ?

The car has full a/c, roll up windows, no p/s and is mostly stock aside from springs.

I've seen a EG hatch with shock and spring combo with a b16 run very quick at the streets of willow springs ( about 7 seconds faster than me in my supra ) and I see the tires and gas are 50% cheaper than the supra.

Thanks!

If you are seeing a b powered EG run faster than you in your turbo supra whats that telling you?
The driver is the key factor here.

I have seen drivers in D series cars run down and leave B series drivers in the dust.
Its the driver, and not the car.

Suggestion.
Figure out what sanctioning body you want to run in and check their CCR's
They have all that information in their rule books.
We arent going to tell you what set up to run on the car.
Go back and start reading up on what TA group you want to run with.
Read their rules and decide.. its that simple.

I pretty much answered my own question but I wanted some confirmation before I got my hopes up and started tracking my civic. Its just much easier and cheaper to track than the big heavy gas guzzling supra.

I'll learn the tracks, get experience and have some fun for now. Thanks for the advice!

I am going to be in a similar situation myself as I am dropping my s2k to pick up a single cam ek. I will still be doing track events and realize that even though my times will be slower it's just getting track time that counts. Oh and I can haul my tools finally.

Why would your times be slower?
Horespower isnt an acceptable answer.

Well in that case I would like to say torque, but we know s2k's dont have that either. haha
I cant wait to get out there with the new car and see the difference in times.

Assuming you're trying to compete in the street class of HFF, i would say get get some coilovers, and good brake pads to start off with. coilovers will cost you 1 point if i remember correctly, and pads are a free upgrade. also look into getting some good tires. r comps will automatically bump you up to mod, so maybe look into rs3's or azenis. i would also tally up your setup and see how much weight reduction you can get away with while staying under the street points max.

other than that, just get out there and romp on that single cam.
