Default 96 V6 valve adjustment #fail

I need some serious help here. thought I had it under control but I am failing miserably.

I replaced a bad head gasket on an engine with 110k on it. I read I needed to adjust the valves, esp after having the head milled. I found a valve lash spec and set the valves. It sounded like a chinese sewing machine. More research showed that there should be NO lash. Tightened up the adj. screw to contact the valve. Still had a tick. Double checked the valves. Still had a tic.

Frustration led me to purchase a factory service manual, which I know I should have done in the first place. The FSM instructs me to turn the valve adj screw 1 1/8 turns after valve contact. Now the engine doesnt run at all. Not a bit of fire. It cranks awkward too.

I have to get this car running. After a few hous of searching, all I could find was a thread where the o.p. wants his valves to stop ticking, but refuses to believe they are adjustable.

Please help!

Thanks,
Bob

Bob, sorry to hear about your current predicament.
If you suspect you have damaged something or the motor sounds "hollow" when your trying to start it a compression test would be a good idea.
Your service manual should give you an acceptable psi range for the cylinder pressure to be in and a maximum variance from the highest to lowest cylinder pressures.

I am not familiar with the v6 accord motor you have but can tell you universally adjusting valves too loose is better than adjusting them too snug.
Hopefully nothing was actually damaged.

When you say you have no fire, are you saying you are not getting spark to the plugs?
If so this issue is completely seperate from the valve adjustment issue.
