Default b16a Em1

hi guys
New on the Honda Game!!!

i bought a HMO B16a 1st GEN
to swap into my em1.

as soon i swap the engine i install I/H/E FPS ITR IM 68mm TB ITR Tranny LSD Chipped P28.
the car feel so slower the my buddy Em1.So i take it to the 1/4 mile n
my Best Run 16.51 @ 92
so couldn't believe that was my time.

so i do some research an i ended up finding the 1st gen come AUTOMATIC

i open the valve cover and guest what i find those weak Auto Cams.
i was so MAD

So take the Head Off. rebuilt it Replace everything in it For ITR Valvetrain and ITR cams S2 Cams Gears.
i also replace the head gasket (OEM) an also check the compression so everything was perfect so far.

so i take it the 1/4 for see any gain cause car feels complete difference with those cams.

my best time was 15.62 @ 94
an i don't think im a really bad driver!!!

i was like NAAAA
Still Very slow compare to my buddy
his Running 15.4 Just I/H/E Chipped 28 on his Em1.

The Si is currently untune u guy think that can be the factor why im running so slow or is cause B16a is really that bad. Cause i don't want to spend 500 on the dyno and go to the Track again an make 15.00 @ 9X.

Sorry for my Engilsh i know the fact is that good but i try hard i can so guys can undestand this and help me

Should Tuned or just make it my DD?

Thanks!!!

Why would you swap an old motor into a newer chassis? Makes no sense.

ehhh... 15.4 sounds close to what it should be. Seems like it should be a little quicker... I was around 14.6 in my last 95 coupe w/ 2nd gen b16 from HMO with IHE and 6puck with chipped p28. Untuned.

Your em1 is a little heavier...I weighed in at 2150 with a qtr tank.

What is your R/T?

I would not have swapped a 1st gen B16 into that car, i wouldn't have done a 1.6L at all. Curious why you didn't just go with a bigger, more powerful engine for the same price like a B20Z?

a chipped p28 untuned !? I would get that tuned waaay before swapping CAMS! Now, I'm not a p28 expert, but if it's chipped - then there is a base tune on it. Do you have a tach? What's your rev limit even set to? I have played with my p28 maps a ton when I was turbo, car was weak as hell before boost, and it was because the stock map was garbage for my y8. Being 'un-tuned' while N/A isn't anywhere near as bad as trying that turbo'd - but still, how can you expect any power on a basemap that you have no idea what has been modified on it? -not tryin to be a dik just my .02

vtec or not, a B20Z is more powerful and easily outperforms a B16 stock for stock, not to mention a vtec head could be added to it for even more power.

Doesn't seem all that bad...my last car, a ej6 w/ a stock sir1 block, stock sir2 head and ls trans did a 15.6@92 using a virgin jdm p30 ecu. Your times are normal for this motor/chassis.

The b20Z makes 133ft lbs, that's a lot more power, and it has a broader power band

X2 that.. I had an LS and swapped it out for a SIR2 B16a in a '94 Civic hatch. Bad decision on my part because it was definitely not the same.

Your times seem to be alil slower than average. I got a 2000 dx hatch with a b16a2 swap stock headers, whale ***** intake, cc stage 2 clutch, 55mm hks hi power exhaust and i ran a 15.1 with leaky valve seals burnig oil all the way down the track. Ive raced my roomates jdm b20 in his da and beat it everytime by a car length and racing a b18b against my b16 isnt even a race. even all ls/vtecs even ive raced havent beaten me, ya driver error possibly, but the b16 isnt as gutless as people make it to be, you can have a fun quick lil car to race around town in, with some bolt ons and a tune with some better cams. the b16 likes to rev high so matching some cams to make alil more power past 8200 wouldnt be too bad, but dont expect any real gains. just cause its a torqless motor it has some higher end hp unlike a b20 or b18,. you wont really make much going na with a 1.6, but if you decided to boost, you could make some great numbers. you just have to do lots of research, becuase if it was easy everyone would have a 12-13 second car. Im in the process of rebuilding the head with all supertech valvtrain, and honda oem seals, Im throwing soem type r cams in and getting it tuned, ill let you know how i make out with these minor add ons.

Toss a GSR motor in there, tune the ECU, and call it a day
BAM there's your quicker time

First of all a 1st Gen JDM B16 is the same as a EM1 B16A2: 160hp

Second, You need to tune your car to see any gains.

Third a stock B20 or LS is no where near close to a stock B16.

What's your elevation? I was able to hit 15.7 with a stock 96 LS on falken azenis @2,389 ft years ago. I always liked a B16....I felt it was always underestimated. Simply put the rod to stroke ratio will speaks for itself...I say not the most powerful but one of the most reliable.

I had an EM1 and I was able to pull GSR's and integras with ls/vtecs but not by much. I had trouble with B16 EF's and EG's it boiled down to the driver in the end.

I guess I'm must be Imagining things then. A stock B16....torque-less.
