Default Question regarding cruise control vacuum tank

Ok, I've been looking around and can't find any real solid info on this...
I've been doing a wire tuck for a little while now on my 98 Civic LX mini-me.
Just finished tucking the wires attached to the bracket between the driver's side shock tower and firewall and removed the bracket they were attached to.
But also attached to that bracket was a black plastic cylinder tank with vacuum hoses going to the intake manifold and to the cruise control unit in the engine bay.
It's called a vacuum tank, I believe.

My question is: is that tank necessary for cruise control to work? If so, I'd like to know why cuz I'm a curious little booger about how things work on my car ^^;
Why not just run the vacuum line from the cruise control to the intake manifold?
Or did I just waste my time rerouting the hoses so the tank is now hidden beneath my brake fluid reservoir?

If I don't need it, it'd look much cleaner with just the hoses instead of this zip-tied little tank hidden beneath stuff

Please advise, H-tech!
^^;

Think of it like a reservoir tank similar to that of the brake and clutch master cylinders, except it stores vacuum instead of liquid.

When my friend and I did my motor swap he either hid mine or took mine out. I'll take a look when I get a chance. I remember it looked like something was missing in that corner and he told me he did something. I don't have the best memory

Interesting...but why would it need to be stored?
I figured the vacuum produced by the motor would be sufficient unless it's accelerating....oh, I wonder if it's for when you use the ACCEL button when the cruise is engaged to bump the speed up a bit with the stored vacuum.

If you could let me know if it works without it, that'd be great, thanks!
