Default quiet exhaust

I have an 93 hatch with a b16a2 with a spoon racing exhaust. i was wondering what muffler to buy to quiet the car down. i heard installing them as mid pipes backwards helps? I just bought the car and already harassed by the law. any help is appreciated. I don't want to buy a whole new exhaust kit.

Does the car have a cat? does it have a resonator? Get the car on a lift and look. Check to make there and no holes in the piping or muffler.

I have a built ls/vtec with 4-1 headers, no cat, 22inch magnaflow resinator, 2.5 inch piping, and 2.5 inlet and 2.5 out stock replacement muffler.

I wanted to have my cake and eat it too. I wanted a silent beast without restricting power. I found this setup to work well. Cost about 175 for piping, res, and muffler installed. ( no dyno test to back this setup)

Never been sweated by cops either... However that could be due to the fact in old white dude with a beard and labcoat

Note: Running no cat in some states is a HUGE fine (Somewhere in the $1000 Range ive been told) and if caught can also get you sent to a State Ref. So running a Dummy cat would be a Great idea

its a huge fine in any state. messing with anything that is federally put on there is considered illegal. if you run it on the road.

i can't see how turning an open pipe stuffed with fiberglass would make power vs. noise. sounds pretty silly unless you can prove it.

get the biggest resonator you can. cut out that much pipe and weld it in. quiet as a kitten with no pulse.

I have apexi world sport 2 muffler on my em1 and it is fantabulous. Civil at idle and low rpm, just loud enough at wot and vtec. I definitely recommend.

Also worth mentioning, exhaust laws vary from state to state. In VA, the laws state that exhaust must be OEM or OEM equivalent. The Thrush Turbo muffler is, legally speaking, OEM equivalent.

Inspection stations don't care about the muffler. I'm more talking about if you get pulled over and have to go to court. Bring the receipt for the muffler with you, and a picture of it under your car, and the ticket should be thrown out. I've gotten one ticket since I got my Thrush installed, and that worked just fine for me. Compared to the Mugen twin loop I had before, that I averaged one ticket every 4 months, I'll take the Thrush Turbo any day of the week.
