Obviously you need to fix the connections, but it sounds like you may have a bad alternator

with the car running, disconnect positive on battery. if it shuts off its the alternator.

To remove the alternator, you need to move the PS pump. Loosen the bolts and take tension off the belt. Remove the belt, then remove the bolts all the way. Leaving the PS hoses connected, pull the pump up out of the way. To get more slack with the hoses, pull the PS reservoir up off it's bracket.

Make sure you disconnect the battery before unplugging the alternator.

It would be best to change out the power steering reservoir hoses when you move it as it will tend to leak a bit when the hoses get moved and the hoses are already pretty old. You can get them cheap at auto stores. Just make sure to get some power steering fluid as well.

Like he said the alternator has an always hot power terminal. It's best to disconnect the battery before messing with it as you could be in for a big shock if you touch that terminal and any nearby ground at the same time.

Are you sure there isn't an ignition issue as well? If you jump start it, will it stay running-leave the cables connected.

describe your problem in detail. you will getting better help. when you say it doesnt not start. does it crank over? or does it crank and not start? when you were driving before it died, was the battery light on?
