When #1 cylinder is at TDC so is #4, and the same for #2 and #3. So, since valves have to be adjusted when the respective cyl is at TDC, when you adjust 1 can you jump to 4, then go to 2, set at TDC, adjust, then go to 3? The manuals stipulate to adjust them 1,2,3,4 in that order. a mechanic would have to find TDC 4 times which is not a hard thing to do but why? when a cyl is at TDC there is no pressure acting on the valve springs or rocker arms. you should be able to adjust two cyl at a time, just finding TDC twice. Am I missing something here or can this be done either way.

as long as the round part of the cam lobe is on the rocker not pushing on the valve you can adjust it in any order you want

 

I did it one at a time, just to be sure of everything. I can't believe I use to pay for this every 20k when I had my Integra. It's super easy to do. Love how quiet it is after a valve adjustment.

As previously stated above, as long as the cam isn't pushing on the valve, you should be ok. If you take off the timing gear cover you can see the mark on the gear and find what cylinder you are on.
