Official Intake Setups Pictures
Sup guys just wanted to know what people are running for intakes..
Anyone ever tried Drag style Velocity stack sticking out the headlight with no filter?
or using headlight as a duct to air intake.
Just post what you're running, A picture would be pretty coool as well.
Here's a few setups that i've used. i'm looking into a new setup this year,

Haven't tried this one yet!!! Waiting to fix tranny.

im sure this has been covered. yes ppl have used headlights as intakes, yes they have run the pipe out the head light with the velocity stack and didnt have filter. its do you have the ***** to run no filter with the thought of wat if something goes in my intake etc... the intake setup has been done out the hood as well. bisi runs that setup on his f=series insight that runs 9's.
one of the newer honda tunings have some built cars. a b series that i guess makes 300+ al motor. and a h series that up there too.i believe they bothh had some custom intake setup on them as well

This is the road race forum right? I'm not in the drag race forum am I?
If this is road racing still, why in the world would you run no filter? ITBs sure I can see it but I would still run screening. When you are running on a circuit with tire debris, dirt and sand, rocks, and whatever else comes flying up do you really want to have those items going into your motor?

i'm not saying i'm gonna run without filter, the risk of losing an engine by pebble vs 2hp not worth it.
I'm just wondering what people are running.. that's all.

i've tried the open headlight to the intake WITH a filter (you're nuts to drive on a road course without a filter) and it seemed to work well on the old car, but the new one doesn't like it. so i'm going to try something else this year.
if you aren't competing, it really doesn't matter.

I did the open headlight thing before, and also had a ITR style Aem cold air with a fog light duct to direct air to the filter.
After experimenting, I have decided to run something more suitable for all weather conditions. It sucks changing intakes when it rains, it sucks more when your air filter is waterlogged.
My car is still in pieces and the new intake has not been designed yet but it will be a modified CT Engineering (formerly Comptech) Ice box and custom intake piping.
If this thread is still looming on the first page when its done Ill post pics.

It didn't seem to work as I still threw a CEL after going through both water splashes on rally.
If I were you, I would get a few different configurations together, go to a dyno and try them all back to back. This is what I did and I found a setup, including a K&N filter, with very significant gains over a name brand cold air intake(25ft lbs and 18hp at 4500rpm and 8ft and 8hp at peak) for my K20 with a stock throttle body and intake manifold. Shows how restricted the cold air was.
I run a stock civic si airbox with an integra intake tube that pulls cold air from behind the bumper under the headlight. Cost me nothing and works great.

some pics of my set up. I don't have pics right now of it but there is a NACA duct i molded into the bumper of a 99-00 civic. From there I ran brake cooler ducting to the box. It is getting good cold air and still running a filter and short tube, all while being sealed off from hot engine air.
I know the top is cut a little rough but it isn't the worst set up I have ever seen.

LHT Performance made this intake for us for our K20 CRX..we like it alot. We were very limited on space and routing options, this worked out best for us and it has a direct shot of air from the front bumper next to the radiator.
damnnnnnnnnnnn dual tb will be sweet.
and you can run without a filter but i wouldnt. heres some ideas

pics as of right now. i have a dual cone k&n to replace it. its bigger and has more surface area. but its too fat and hits my throttle cable bracket. so i need to use a 3" long pvc stright piece so it clears. ill post pics after if theres intrest
heres some pics i found looking for my intake build

they are all ram air with filters.
i want to make the headlight the inlet for air and have the filter on the throttle body. so its the shortest i can get with cold air

I'm not sure if this is considered an "official" intake setup but I ran this last year.

I wanted an intake with a velocity stack but still wanted to retain a good filter. I found the biggest K&N filter I could and it started from there...
Some comparisons between the stock k&n drop in filter for the dc2 and the k&N in this box
Round Filter Total Surface Area 345.15625 in^2
K&N Flat Filter Total Surface Area 1092 in^2
