Default New 97 Lude

Ok , I currently own two 92 ludes (S & SI 4WS) and an 04 Pilot. True to the Honda Nature a 97 Lude was traded in at our dealership... I now own it. 1 owner pretty clean.

It of course had the H22A4 with 5 Speed. My plans are to keep this a daily driver, non turbo set up. I will consider ECU mods or swaps. I am primarily looking to do bolt ons.

Now the big question and I will take all input good or bad on ANYTHING you can throw at this car. What have you found to be the best mods for this car and what should I stay away from. (Elaborate if you will).

I will be looking into intake, exhaust (headers back), reprogrammed ECU or obd 1 conversion, headlights, foglights, taillights, suspension, anything to add horsepower, and would love to add OEM honda mods to keep it looking upgraded but stock inside and out.

This is my first H22, I have played with the H23, F22, B20 etc. so let me know what I need to upgrade, change, fix, toss etc.

My older ludes have AEM intakes with K&N Filters, HKS Ceramic Exhaust, AEM Cam Gears on H23, clutchmasters clutches. The guys who have been there done that. Which Exhaust manifolds work best, intakes. Clutches, lightweight flywheels. If you have it what was your experience.

Thanks in advance.

I would say an AEM V2 intake would be a nice first step. For keeping it a simple daily driver

For exhaust, I see most people going with the Kteller SS piping kit, and the Hytech replica header has shown solid gains on a dyno compared to other options out there.

How many miles on it? If you're getting close to the point where you should change the T-Belt, you should swap it manual tensioner or use the new KaizenSpeed tensioner.

Grab some JDM replica foglights off eBay for cheap, theyre pretty much identical to the real thing.

Thanks for the good info. I will be doing the T-belt, What are the advantages of the Kaizenspeed tensioner? Big thanks on the header, thats the info I am looking for. Also I will be using the AEM setup unless someone has found greater gains on a different style or type of intake tubing.

What is the good and bad on the AEM stand alone management system? Anyone have experience on the H22 with this?

AEM is over kill for what you will be using the car for. Something like Neptune or Hondata will be enough for the car. Infact, probably more than you will ever use. I personally went with a Vibrant Tri-Y header. Support a real company, similar gains to the hytech Replica and better build quality. I have owned both (kept the vibrant), the Vibrant has cleaner welds, includes a flex pipe, and is a near bolt on with better clearance. You may need to notch the crossmember a bit. I did not need to because I have an upgraded traction bar so I really couldn't tell you. I can tell you when I installed the Hytech replica I did need to notch the cross member about 1cm.

As for intakes, call me cheap but after years of seeing those dyno threads all you will ever need is a $50 ebay cold air intake with a k&n filter slapped on the end of it. If you want to support an intake company buy an AEM intake I guess. I just can't justify something as stupid as an intake. It's a tube, no R&D goes into those things so I don't care about supporting someone making tubes and charging $400 for it.

Paint your valve cover, it's fun.

Thanks for the input on the ECM side, I had the hondata in mind also. I haven't looked at neptune. Bigs thanks on the header. I will definately look into Vibrant. What did you pay if you don't mind me asking?

As for the intake, I have always kind of agreed with you on this as well, If there is something out there Dyno Proven, I might go that route. However I have a two piece AEM from my 92 prelude I might use. Even if I can only use the top half.

I really want a ECM I can play with or make preset changes of sorts. For now I would want to bring up the rev limit a bit, mainly so I can take it to 8-9k without pinging the rev limiter by accident. I know the power drops after 8500. I also want to bring Vtec in sooner and have the correct mapping of air fuel to compinsate for the change.

Is it worth installing cam gears with the timing belt?

Thanks for the good info.

Installed an AEM w/ K&N (short, top piece only) off one of my 92 Preludes. I have to relocate one piece mounted above the engine mount to make it fit, but it went well. I might look at running the second piece of pipe to relocate it between the bumper and front wheel later.
The Vtec is loud on the H22 with an intake. Puts a smile on my face. :D
Beside a lot of cleaning, I have only had time to fix a leak from my distributor last night.

I will definately have to get some of the body roll out of this car, my 4th gens are a lot tighter in cornering. I'm open for ideas.

as for ecm i went with a jumper harness to ob1 and a p28 running chrome i believe. I forgot the car hasn't been running for at least a year and am currently making it a dd with a h23a. And i had h&r springs with tokico blues. They felt got and much tighter on turns until i upgraded to some tein dampers. They ride like the stock suspension with some 17's and 45's on tires. But when i hit the coners hard they feel GREAT!!! waaaay better then last set up.

My H23 feel like it has more torque than the H22, The only advantage is my H23 has AEM cam gears and an Apexi cat back exhaust. The H23 has always produced more torque in my opinion even before the mods. Even though it ran high 15s at the track and is a Auto with 4WS. I believe it feels best from 90 to 130. I had it up to 132 going up hill and it was still pulling strong. It is an impressive motor, converting it to a Vtec has to be a nice feeling, as long as it keeps it's low end torque.

You want solid Prelude info you need to go to other Prelude forums. There is as much info as you could want. If you need to know which ones specifically PM me.
