Some ?'s on 1st gen Integra D16A1
Ok I got one of these motors for CHEAP and I was wondering how to tell what year it is. IS there any difference in the Integra motors USDM. Like is the old ones Brown valve cover or are they all black? Also what years did the 1 st gen teg run? Thanks for any help..I have a black valve cover, I am pulling the pistons and rods out to put in my 99 D16Y8 motor. What kind of CR will I be looking at? Any ideas?
I really don't know what the compression would be - you must consider that the Y8 rods might be a different length than the A6 rods, (I think they're the same though) it most likely would increase the compression (no more than 1 point), but it could also decrease it... I do know that if your using A6 rods, and replace A6 pistons with A1 pistons, you will increase the compression by one whole point.
But the Y8 rod/piston combo is different, I'm thinking that you'd get a .5 increase with the A1 pistons - but that's just a guess.

well it all depends on the year if it had a vacume advance distributer than its a 86-87 and will yeild higher compression the 88-89 has same dist as our cars and will yeild a lower compression but they are thea same as teh ZC pistons

actually the 88-89 has higher compression. something like .3 points more.
cant see from here but the 86-87 sits higher in the chamber its not much more of a displacement but its more.....the 88-89 are teh same as teh dohc ZC
http://www.g1teg.org is the first gen teg site..
The first gen teg was 86-87 for the brown valve cover vac advance motor, 88-89 for the black valve cover motor. the D16A1 is essentially a ZC with different cam profiles. The A1 pistons will definately raise your comp a little. If you can find some 86-87 rods, they are the strongest D series rods that Honda made, with a noticable amount more material to them, though the dimensions for all 1.6l D series motors are the same as far as bore, rods, crank, etc...
I have an 87 D16A1 in my CRX that is getting PM6 pistons on the stock rods to lower compression for boost.

Obviously I am not wrong seeing as how I just had one of these and here are the specs.
go with a B series engine, that way you get VTEC and a high compression.
I agree with the thumbs down. Get something with low compression and non vtec, and boost that sucker.

Or get a B16, throw low compression internals in there and boost the hell out of it
hey jdmb16ahatch, my dad lives in that area, medford, mt holley, tabernacle, cherry hill, i am moving back up there for some peace and quiet while i work on a new project, hit me let me know where are and if there are a lot of guys i can kick it with up there that arent ricers, no kits, big rims, or wings or crazy paint...and its all good
