Icon2 Del Sol Build Advice. Rally/Daily/Time Attack build with a Budget

So I'm looking at my Del Sol trying to identify my goals with this car.

Ideally I would like to get a Del Sol around 220-250 Hp which I can take out for time attack and some rally competitions (more for the fun factor. If I win...bonus!) to get my feet wet in the racing industry. Currently I have a D16Z6 Engine but would like some feedback from people here on narrowing in on a build with a certain budget.

Goals
-220-250hp. (From my understand these numbers are were a stock D16 max out at. Anything more requires more internals...?)

-Used as a Daily, Auto-Cross and Time Attack. I've already picked up some Tokico Shocks and Tein Springs. Also some light weight paneling/Hood.

-Budget of $1200. *Can get an extra $300 with the sale of my D16Z6 and another $100 for my D15B7

-Turbo Setup. (Turbo being new and rest of the parts being used.)

Now I'm having trouble deciding on staying with the D16. I've come across alot of deals lately. A b18b swap with a GSR head for $500 total (I've read that there is a cost for machine work when doing a LS/Vtec?). Full GSR swap for $600. B16 Swap for $600. I'll still want a turbo package for a B-swap.

Am I just trying to confuse myself with going outside a D16? Realistically will I got over my $1200/*$1600 budget?

Some advice please. Pretty sure I'm more detail than the rest of these kind of posts. We'll my goals are listed...

Thanks in advance.

I personally think it'll be tough making that much HP on a D series without beefing up the internals, which can get pricey
BUT
A B engine can take that on stock internals with room to spare, and should fit a Del Sol without much modification
Your choice (oh and a B will give you more torque over a D any day of the week; just something to think about)
^^

You will NOT make that power on a D with your current budget. It's just not possible.
Tuning alone will eat half+ of that budget, easily.

If you are just getting your feet wet, race the car as is. Get a feel for it/ and what you want it to do. Seat time really is the most important thing, next to a good set of tires.

My recommendation is to get some seat time, while saving and get the suspension squared away first.

Hey Bro thanks for the info.

I've read similar viewpoints. But the budget...is it attainable with mentioned budget? For a B + Turbo...

budget of $1200 I'd lower your goals a bit.
if you want to run a turbo on it bad you can do it.
my personal idea of your best bet for that money would be to find a stock DSM being parted out or something, pick up the stock turbo (14b/t25/13g), injectors, stock sidemount IC, and bov. You could probably get all these searching the dsmtuner's classified for around $200-250

The left over money should be enough to shop around (buy used if you can) for the rest such as exhaust/tuning(you'll have to cheap if you go this route, I recommend Chrome)/appropriate manifold&adapter to run the DSM turbo, and other misc things.

A car with such a setup should be able to make around 180-200whp. I wouldn't go further on stock internals.

Oh jeez...hrm...probably not, man
Even if you CAN get the B motor for 5-600, you still gotta get the trans, the axles, and the mounts, plus all the wiring you'll have to add PLUS the cost of the Turbo system itself.
PLEASE don't go Ebay if you can help it (unless you feel like flipping a coin with your motor, to quote the folks here)
The problem is, a quality Turbo kit is gonna run easily close to $1k on its own JUST TO START
So....if you're comfy with beefing up your D-series internals (and you might as well beef up the trans too, especially if your doing racing/rally/etc or else it'll wear out too quick)...I GUESS you could be around that budget if you play your cards right (just don't expect miracles )
It's likely to go over though
>.<

EDIT: lol these guys beat me to it
XD

Valid points...I'm just getting anxious with this car. The same kind of anxiousness I felt with my first girlfriend haha.

I understand I'll be able to determine my needs with suspension AFTER I've raced with the car as is. Also I've seen alot of guys on D-Series boast about their 14B turbo setups on stock D's running 220hp. Mind you the tuning costs I'm unaware of. Haven't really found detailed threads explaining how thats priced out...

Thanks for the post. I'll consider your advice seriously.

I believe the tuning costs run per hour, but it depends on the shop
I couldn't honestly tell you an example rate-got no real experience with dyno tuning
^^;
I can do the emissions tests on them though

The shop I go to charges about $400, now, that is just dyno time.

You can deffinetly do around 220 on the egine, how long it will last should also be considered.
A vitara/eagle setup isn't too bad and will hold a quite a bit of power.

The $1200 budget is what is killing. 1200-400+ for tuning leaves you $800 to build a turbo setup. Not to mention all of the supporting things you will need.

I think you should loose the dreams of a turbo autoX del sol for a while, and just race the ***** off of were it sits.

hell, a "good" suspension setup is going to run you a minimum of $600-800. Honda's really aren't cheap to play with. lol

Well I did mention a $1600 amount if I sold my engines...Haha did you own a DSM too? I was on DSM Tuners. I like the price on that entire setup for $300.

Yes I was planning on getting a 14B. From the reviews on D-Series.org the 14B's wideband gives this turbo the best spooling and kicks in at a lower rpm and maintains boost. Sorry I committed myself to 3 hours of research on this and can't find my notes. I'll articulate that better on request.

Thanks for the info bro. Almost forgot about that site.

Yea those swaps we're complete bro. With axles, ecu, mounts etc.

Ebay turbo?! Hell no! Even after reviews the turbo is basically lady luck and alot of the parts need fabrication.

I'm trying to stay away from beefing up the internals...

Maybe I just might adjust my HP goals...

Oh they're complete eh?
Hrm, very interesting...hell, I'd slap the GSR in there and rip it up with that forever
X3
And lol I'd help with emissions but our dyno is a piece of **** (or more appropriately the leaky-*** test bench is)
XDD

turbo your D. find grumblemarc and go to the thread in his sig.

look before you post next time. seriously. theres at least 4 of these threads a page.

you will not make 220-250 on any motor without some work or a simple turbo.

Your goal is unrealistic. Both on a horsepower level and a budget level.
