Default 1st-gen Odyssey flashing Drive light?!

Hey I have many first generation honda Odyssey vans. Atleast two of them have flashing drive lights on the dashboard gear-selection display. (P,R,N,D,D3,D2)

I have tried everything I can think of.

I have flushed and filled the fluid several times.

I have connected the code reader and jumped the pins to check for codes. There are no codes.

The light starts flashing after the vehicle has been running for 60 seconds.

I have disconnected the battery to clear any codes, and this does nothing. The light continues to blink upon re-connection and start-up.

On one Odyssey I even replaced the transmission with a spare I had. The light continued to blink right away as soon as it was reassembled and started.

I am really about to lose it here, does anyone know why this light is flashing and how to make it stop? Thanks!

The light is flashing because you have a transmission DTC set.
From what i've seen, it is usually because of a faulty 3rd or 4th gear pressure switch.
Most of your local parts stores (autozone, etc.) will scan your vehicle for free.

I have heard much about this pressure switch you speak of. It would coincide with the strange/sluggish shifting in one or two of the cars with the flashing drive light.

I would rather purchase the code reader myself, or figure out how to read the codes.

I have an OBD2 reader which plugs into the OBD DTC port but that does not appear to give any transmission codes.

On the OBD1 vehicles I have jumped the pins on the passenger side under the glovebox in the blue rubber holder in the 2 pin plug and counted the CEL flashes. These do not appear to be transmission codes. Am I missing somethin?

Thanks dude!

Just to reiterate I have NO CEL.

There are no lights on and connecting a code reader to the OBD2 port verifies this.

Thanks!

bump.... I swapped out VSS today with an odyssey that does NOT have a flashing drive light.

This didn't fix the problem.

Any ideas?

Make sure that the 'S' or 'D4' shifter status light on the instrument panel lights up for at least two seconds, or blinks after the key is turned on.

Turn the key off.

Jump the two 'Service Check Connector ' A, B pins together and turn the key to ON (II.)

Watch the 'S' or 'D4' light for flashes.

If no problem exists, the light won't flash.
If a problem exists, the light will give you either short, or long and short flashes.
Short flashes are a 'ones' digit of either a one or a two digit trouble code.
Long flashes are the 'tens' digit of a two digit code.
Short flashes are about a half second long, and long flashes last about a second and a half.
There is about a one second 'OFF' pause between each code.

All codes will be shown in sequence, lowest number first, up to the highest number.
The sequence will repeat as long as the key is on and the connector is jumped together." †

Turn the key off. Remove the two AMP male connectors (or jump tool) from the 'Service Check Connector ' pins.

Alright here is the follow up.

Everything checks out fine. I opened the TCM and inspected it for burned resistors/capacitors as mentioned in your link and found no problems.

I have managed to extract 2 codes from the TCM.

Jumping the pins on SCS connector under the glove box does NOT give any CEL/MIL light codes. The CEL/MIL light stays ON and does NOT blink any codes.

However when I jump the pins - the D4 light flashes out two separate codes. The D4 TCM codes are 1 and 2.

blink..............blink blink.....................blink................... .blink blink (repeat)

the blinks are all the same length, there are no 'tens' and it is not code 12 I am very sure it is code ONE and code TWO.

What are these codes?

Thanks.

a code reader is not going to help if you dont have a CEL, have u tried replacing the pressure switch like wrenchin stated.

I have a code reader but the vehicle is obd1.

I have replaced the pressure switch as recommended.

I have no CEL, but the TCU blinks out code one and code two when I jump the pins to check for codes.

(the TCU, not the ECU - the D4 light, not the CEL blinks out the codes.)

Anything else to try?

I changed lockup solenoid valve A and B, and I still get the codes.

Is there a way to clear the codes (other than removing the backup fuse)?

And what else could the problem be if changing both of these valves does not make the code go away?

thanks!

to reset it u have to pull the fuse out and if problems still there try replacing the tcu, also pull the tcu out and check if any resistors burnt out

I pulled the backup 7.5amp fuse for 10 minutes and the light came right back on when I went for a drive.

I also pulled the TCU and opened the case and did not find any burned injectors/resistors or anything looking damaged.

are there any other reset procedures?

also what would you do if you got codes for lockup solenoids A/B and you changed them both out and the same codes came right back? (I suspect I didn't clear them properly)

edit-thanks a lot for helping dude.
