Default Shortage of 2012 Si's

I have just recently started looking around at 2012 Si sedans and have found out there seems to be quite a shortage of Si's (coupe and sedan) here in so cal. One dealer by me has a black sedan which is not my first color choice. I want to get a polished metal metallic but according to the dealer they have only had 4 Si's this year and all have either been white or black only. I also saw how the dealer has their little extra card with "dealer options" listed and they had a $5,995 "market" charge. WTF??? I laughed and asked what that was about and they just said, "don't worry about that".

Does it have anything to do with the tsunami that hit last year I remember reading
that it affected Honda but unsure about the production of us vehicles. Personally not a fan of the design of the 9th gen's still perfer 8th gen.

The tsunami could have something to do with it. Not sure if there is just a low demand but all the dealers I have talked to said all the Si's they have gotten were sold very quickly or even before it got there. I had one dealer tell me they wouldn't have anymore 2012 models and 2013 would be the next Si they would get. Gonna go take a look at the black one today

It is a cumulative effect... the tsunami that hit Japan destroyed a fair bit, and the flooding in central Thailand slowed parts manufacturing at the facilities there... the Honda plant in Canada that makes the Si has not been able to ramp up the production due to the parts shortage... it will return to normal soon... I am sure of it.

We have only gotten like maybe 4-5 2012 si since they came out and they're always sold be before they get to us. Maybe they not gonna make alot of them until the 2013 update, since these cars are junk IMHO lmao

I was told before I got my Si Coupe that they were held up for small parts from japan.

My car was to be built on the 21 of july, I got notification the car was built shortly after and by the 25th of july I had the car.

After having the car a few months I found out I really didn't like it, so I recently traded the car for a new camaro.

I can live with 25mpg instead of the 30 I was getting, I can live with the fact I don't need to by premium fuel any more, I also like the increase in HP from 201 to 323.

Some day I will buy another si, but it won't be a 2012.

Hi; this is my second time around in this page. I just bought my 5th SI Saturday here in Puerto Rico, a Sunburst Orange Pearl. There were only 5 Civics that day at the dealer and the only one that they were going to get in Orange was mine. Not to many people would like to pay the extra 7 or $8,000 for an SI, I did because like I mentioned above this is my 5th SI. So the issue it's not just only in the States...

After doing some more searching around I have decided to forget about buying an Si, dealerships are serious about these $4-$6k markups and anyone who pays that on top of the invoice price for an Si is a frickin tool!!!!

I ordered my Si in October and got it the third week of January. It's a sedan in Dyno Blue Pearl II. No dealer markup here, I paid just over $22k for it. This is in NY.

Try looking around in different states; it'd be worth buying a plane ticket to get the car you want for a reasonable price. I've seen the local Honda dealer selling a couple Si's and they were all priced around MSRP.

Honda themselves apologized for the horrible styling and planned to get a remodeled version out later this year.

Earthquake and Tsunami killed the parts availability for many cars besides the Si, it took me 3 months to get some parts for an 09 TSX. However Honda is doing their best and it is slowly returning to normal though.

There are plenty of ways to know an automaker has made a misstep. Diminished sales and high inventory are typical markers of a lackluster model, as is a paucity of critical acclaim. All three factors are currently weighting on the 2012 Honda Civic. And while stopping short of an actual apology, Honda CEO Takanobu Ito has reportedly stepped in to take responsibility for the model's reception. At a Tokyo Motor Show roundtable, Ito told media members that he takes full responsibility for the vehicle's meager performance in the United States and remarked that Honda takes input from world markets very seriously. The CEO also said that his company is working to discern the best course of action moving forward, acknowledging talk of an earlier-than-normal refresh to address the car's criticisms.

The redesigned Honda Civic hasn't found many fans since it debuted in April. Consumer Reports refused to recommend the vehicle for the first time in the car's history, and Dan Neil of The Wall Street Journal said that the new car "feels like a betrayal from Honda."

Ouch.

Not surprisingly, Automotive News reports that Civic sales have dropped by 15 percent while the rest of the automotive market has seen an increase of 10 percent compared to last year. While some of that fall may be due to supply issues brought about first by earthquake and tsunami activity in Japan and later by floods in Thailand, the reality is that the bread-and-butter compact simply isn't meeting expectations.
They are aiming for two 2012 civic versions. One that sucks and doesn't sell and one they are redesigning for later this year.
