Default AEM cam gear help!

hello everyone!

so far on my ls/vtec build i have everything else done, except for cam gears! i have the AEM tru time cam gears, but when i do camshaft timing with the circle with the line through it up, the horizontal lines do not line up at all! so idk whether to put the arrows up or parallel the lines and call it a day! i've already tried doing online research but nothing is on the internet about AEM cam gear settings! i just want it to be stock setting so i can atleast drive it to the tuner shop! if your wondering what my build is, here it is:

b16a head:
brian crower dual valve springs
steel retainers
blox flat face high compression valves
buddy club spec III+ camshafts
AEM cam gears

b18a1 bottom:
p30 pistons
shotpeened ls rods
stock crank
oem mains and bearings

to give a better idea of what im talking about i will provide a picture! thank you!

I would say set the cam gears to 0,0 and line up the marks that are going to be parallel with the top of the head.

Also make sure the cam lobes for cylinder number 1 are about 11:00 (ex) and 1:00 (IN) if I remember correctly.

thank you! appreciated greatly!

anyone know a great break in method? i was just going to let my car run at 2k rpms for a while, then put it back to idle and drive for about 50 miles then change the oil (obviously using non synthetic for the break in period)

just fyi. 0,0 is stock. let your tuner adjust your timing. and another thing.. aem cam gears suck. id upgrade them asap. better then stcok cam gears since your lsv tho. nice lil set up. post updates after tune with numbers if you can. id like to see the power you make.

thought id show you guys/gals the steps ive done from beginning tell now:
when i first bought the engine! looked crappy!

brought her home and tore it apart!

once the head was off and valvetrain taken out, replaced all the parts with upgraded stronger parts! picture of retainers and springs!

installed camshafts!

got bored so i decided to have some fun and redo my valve cover! 1st picture: base paint and lettering laid down! 2nd picture: last coat of paint and lettering taken off to reveal the black lettering, then clear coat applied! 3rd picture: finished!

also decided to repaint my front lip! sanded then applied paint then clear coat!

so far this is where i ended with today! still have to do valve lash and camshaft TDC! (and yes this picture is the same as the other one, forgot to take a picture of my finished valve cover)

ive tried and tried but my cam gears keep ending up the same! one tooth off and when i line the cam gears up with parallel lines, the top marks are slanted retarded! i dont get it.. my head was milled but i dont exactly know by how much! so either its put the top marks up with the parallel lines off one tooth or put the parallel lines parallel to each other with the top marks retarded!

figure out which one is off, then turn that over 1 tooth off so it lines up when the belt is on.

it doesnt even move when i put the belt on! i was told just to set them parallel lines and someone said just put the top arrows up with the parallel lines off one tooth! i have no way to get my car towed to a tuner shop, and i have no dial or gauges to figure it out..

well i found out i can do tdc with the holes in the camshaft and camshaft plate! buuuuttt!!! i have the b16a cam plates and they dont line up with my camshaft holes! so now i have to get b16a2 cam plates.. what a bust! as soon as this is done i can finally tdc it, do the valve lash, then possibly take it to a tuner shop right away to get my camshafts adjusted! really pays off doing research!

the only different ones were the obd0 b16 with the rough casting. i'm pretty sure the rest are the same. either way there shouldn't be any reason you can't do it without using the dowels.

yeah i must have the obd0, sense my head is a b16a! i mean to me, without haveing to use those holes, it looks like im at TDC with the camshafts! and yeah the casting is rough..
