HEY HT i got a EG with a GSR and it starts, idles, and drives good. Only thing is that when driving and i decide to open her up and pound it, it smokes from the exhaust. It doesnt feel like its loosing power but I just got it from a friend and i asked him does it burn or leak oil he replyed no but anyone can say that. So with that said can anyone tell me what might be going on with my motor or steps to take to trouble shoot my smoking issue. Or the dreaded question do i need a rebuild all ready? Come on HT junkies help me. thanks

 

For starters, what color smoke is coming out of your exhaust?

 

im gonna guess black smoke. my d does the same at WOT from time to time. if thats the case, then yeah.. it burns oil.

Black smoke means it's running rich in most cases

 

Is it all stock? Or whats done to it?

 

Black means running rich. Blue smoke is oil. In this case your running rich pull your plugs see of they are black. Any cels?

 

most vtec motors will throw black smoke when in vtec.

 

for starters its running of a stock p28 ecu for a sohc v. Its stock head and block with bolt ons such as str throttlebody, str fuel rail, edelbrocks victor x manny, intake, exhaust, with cam gears but no cams.
Also yes it has cel about ten minutes into my drive

 

I don't get this.......you are running the completely wrong ecu for a gsr and wonder why it doesn't run properly, then make a thread asking why?

 

yeah thats dumb, but thats how i got it. i guess need get a gsr ecu then.
