Default Complete Skunk2 Operating Cylinder Head: B-Series

Curious to know if anybody has ever ran a B-Series cylinder head (mainly Vtec models) that had consisted of the vast majority of Skunk2's lineup? For instance the Skunk2: throttle body, intake manifold, valve's, valve springs and retainers, camshafts/gears, and exhaust manifold. Since they make all of these performance parts, it seems pretty straight forward that they should/do test them all together anyways and should operate together in perfect harmony and be the ideal setup when choosing their company. What do you think HT? In my opinion, I am sure this setup for a B-series Vtec top end will be outstanding.

Skunk2 does offer many different applications for their individual parts though feel free to list your current setup and what you think of it, and what you don't like. Any questions, opinions, facts, and comments are more then welcome. Please keep your negativity away from this topic as it will serve no purpose towards our discussion. Thank you.

Here is an example of a setup I would run.

B18C1 Cylinder head
Skunk2:
68mm throttle body
Pro series intake manifold
Pro series springs
Titanium retainers
High compression Pro valves
Pro 1 or 2 camshafts
Megapower Header

B18c1 block would consist of 11.5:1 or 12:1 Compression Ratio.

MANY people like to match their brands throughout their builds and MANY people have done what you are speaking about. S2 has agreat lineup of parts and have done tons of R&D to get great all around performance with each of their products. Also running matching VT and cams is great for warranty purposes. On the other hand there are other companies out there whose parts, accompanied by skunk2 and other brands make for some great power combos. For example: I love the Edelbrock Performer X IM over the S2 piece with almost any 1.8 or mild 2.0 build. I am also a HUGE fan of OE valves in NA apps unless oversized valves are needed. Its been proven OE valves outperform the aftermarket counterparts.
With that said no one has ever been misled with S2 parts. Their cams and VT are top notch and IMO the #1 choice for most engine builders who can afford them. Skunk2 also has great customer service which is hard to find anymore.

Ya I figured it would be best to run their products since they most likely have made them to work with each other. But I agree with what EGSleeper said. Their valvetrain seems to be top notch as for their cams as well. Now with the vast majority of custom exhaust manifolds, I believe their are (not necessarily better) but differing designs that will benefit an engine more then another one in my opinion. It all comes down to the tune thought really.

Are you referring to EGSleeper's OEM valve opinion? If so, what do you think about OEM valves over aftermarket? etc. Curious to know the benefits and drawbacks (depending on engine setup/power goals of course). Not so much skunk2 in particular but aftermarket in general.

Have you read some of the **** on K20a.org about them ? Its absolutely disgusting how they have been run down. There going on likes its some kind of game or something when its not. There not a bad company at all. I personally havent used any of there products myself but i know plenty of people that have and non of them have had issues & there all happy... I'm probably going to be wanting a aftermarket throttle body further down the line and i can tell you now i'll be going for one of there's.

There nothing like there been made out to be.... But then again your only remembered for your bad and never your good...

My exact feelings/thoughts.

I have a B18C1 - long block

- OEM PR3 81.5mm Pistons
- Moderate Port and Polish Head
- Skunk2 70mm Alpha TB
- Blox Intake Manifold (had it for years) Ported/Gasket Matched
- Skunk2 Pro Valve Springs
- Skunk2 Titanium Retainers
- Skunk2 SS Valves (STD size and Dish)
- Skunk2 Pro2+ Camshafts
- Skunk2 Pro Cam Gears
- Skunk2 Cam Seal (had to add that in there )
- HyTech Replica Header
- 2.5" Full Open Exhaust
- 75 shot of Nitrous when needed
- All OEM gaskets, seals, and hard parts for the rest

All I can tell you is -for what it is- you can't go wrong. Now a lot has to do with exactly what type/how the work is done, but I can only imagine it would get better with the few extra Skunk2 parts the engine doesn't have. Most people say that you need 11:1+ for the 1s, 12:1+ for the 2s, and 13:1+ for the 3s... That's all fine if you are completely stock head and stricly N/A, but it really is determined by what kind of work you had done.

I won't speculate on power or times as I haven't had it to a track or dyno - but the car *feels* exactly how I want it to.

One thing I would recommend: Do not go with the "high compression" valves. You don't need or want the extra valvetrain weight for the .2/.3 compression you may gain. Many variables to consider but you are better off with the dished ones regardless. Use a thinner headgasket if needed or mill the head (I prefer not to do the latter).
