Default Newby EF9 owner from the UK

Hi, Newby here from the UK, my names Peter and I race an EF9 in my local championship in the UK, the northern saloon and sports cars.

I bought the car at the back end of 2008. It had already been raced by its previous owner for a couple of years and the owner before him so the car came to me already well specced for circuit racing. The Engine wasn’t particularly powerful but very strong using an eagle crankshaft, h-beam rods and supertech pistons. The top end was fairly standard, Pr3 head with Integra Type R cams. Coupled with an ex group N rallycar PWO ECU and mugen exhaust mani it made about 166bhp on the local dyno. The gearbox was a standard Y1 with ATS 4.75 final drive.

The suspension and brakes had obviously been upgraded with Leda coilovers all round and AP 295mm discs and 4 pot callipers up front. There’s also brake balance adjustment. It obviously already had all the racing equipment needed, cage, fire extinguisher, seat etc etc.

I carried out a couple of improvements over the winter including poly-bushing the suspension and fitting poly-carbonate windows to drop the weight. I did my 1st year of competition in 2009 and did quite well being consistently up the front of the class against much more established competition and even took a win.

For 2010 the car underwent some major modifications. I fitted some Jenvey SF ITB’s using emerald management. I also carried out a hydro conversion using the hasport actuator and fitted an S9B gearbox with Mfactory 3rd/4th and 5th gear ratio’s. I also went for a custom made exhaust system in 2011 and binned the hydro conversion in favour of a YS1. This transformed the car and enabled me to take a number of victories and proved to be consistently the fastest car in class although I’m yet to win the class overall due to luck more than anything unfortunately.

Anyway, here’s a couple of pics:

Here’s some vid:

Won my class by miles and was running 3rd overall for sometime.

Very nice car, interesting that you are using a stock looking radiator. Were you having issues of crank over pressure? just curious because I noticed the vvent tube coming off the front of the valve cover.

Welcome to the board.
Cadwell looks like one fun place to run!
I'll put it on my list of tracks yet to have run on.

Think the temps are probably cooler over here, never had any issues with water temp at all, dont even run a cooling fan. Had problems with oil cooling though, started with a 13 row oil cooler, then went to a 16, now on a 19, temps are still high but doesn't seem to hamper performance now I've gone to 10-60W millers oil.

The cam cover vent was already there when I bought the car to be honest, never had any issues while I've owned the car.

Just noticed your from Durham in the US, I live in Durham in the UK lol!

Its a renault clio cup car, runs a standard engine but equipped with a 6 speed sequential box so goes fairly well!

Hi mate, I'm based in the north east, town called Bishop Auckland not far from middlesbrough.

Our series usually goes down your way to Oulton Park but isn't this year unfortunately.
