ej1 coupe - CEL flickers, clicking noise from the lower left dash
so im having a problem with my z6 ej1 coupe i fire it up runs great then the check engine light flickers and a clicking noise from the lower left dash replaced main relay cause thats what was clicking it started up and ran fine . drove it around for about an hour then parked it for the night . got up drove it around for about an hour ran fine parked it went out 5 mins later started doing it again and so i switched back to t he old main relay started up ran fine for a few mins then did it again so i parked it and let it sit for 5 or 6 hours started it up ran fine and then i drove it home any ideas?

thnks and sorry bout that cleaned that ground and all the engine bay grounds and nothing different. check for cel codes and none swapped ecu's cause i have 2 p28 spares and still didnt change
Failing main relay is my next guess but on your car I don't think it's in that location. Oh! But the ECU is.
yes and yes i have about 10 different main relays before i put in the other one i check the solder joints

check 31 and 24 not loose made sure had power with my test light they were fine power both sides also put my clamp end of test light on all the grounds i could find and touched the positve terminal on the better and test light lite up
I have this same problem, mine was temporarily fixed by running a new ground wire from power steering pump to Chassis, but it came back again.

stilll trying to find the problem once in a while it will start and run fine for a few mins then it dies and wont start back up
My car did this for a while as well. If I remember right a couple wires were loose on my OBD2 to OBD1 jumper harness so I soldered them down and it hasn't happened since.
my car is obd-1 with no jumper harness gonna try some things out tommorrow in the light any more suggestion or ideas would be great
