Help with oil leak please
I've been having an oil leak, and I think I narrowed down where it may be coming from. I'm missing a screw on the top of my valve cover (D15b8), can anyone tell me the name of the part or where I can find one of these? Now another thing, I've been getting pretty bad gas mileage for an EG CX, (roughly 18-20 mpg...) and my car has been idling pretty high. Could this missing screw be the problem to these issues as well as the oil leak? Or am I dealing with other issues at this point.
Sorry I'm a complete nooby

What do you think? It's one of the bolts that hold the valve cover down which means you do not have a proper seal from head to VC. Replace the missing bolt. I don't know why this was never done in the time you've owned the car but judging from the condition of your engine bay it's not hard to tell.
Even if you didn't know what function this bolt served, anyone with common sense would know that if something is missing, you replace it. "Noobness" is no excuse.

Buy a proper manual. You shouldn't have needed to even ask this question.
And yes. This is probably the reason why your mileage is suffering.

The bolt labelled under number 14 (for d15b8 non-vtec) is the one I'm looking for right? Please correct me if I'm wrong

TENZO... that missing nut for the VC (valve cover) wont cause a leak that makes its way to the ground but will leak PERIOD. It will also may cause a vacuum leak introducing un metered air into the motor making our idle rough and gas milage bad.
I just figure if anyones gonna give you **** for a "no excuse stupid question" maybe they can follow up with a correct response and reason why or WTF happens when your missing said nut or bolt.
My wife knows more about cars than this. When we got her car and started to do a closer inspection, anytime there was something that didn't look right she said "Is that supposed to be like that?" and if it wasn't she insisted it be fixed forthwith.
Do you really think just because you are a "noob" and spot something missing or broken on your car that you aren't supposed to know to fix it? Rationalizing is more like it. As a noob do you think it came from Honda that way? If not then fix it.
Oh. if you knew anything, he posted another thread over in the Civic forum where I and others explained all of this to him already. So don't talk when you don't have all the facts.

Yes I am a kid and this is my first car which I picked up as it is. Yes I agree that if there is something wrong, you need to fix it, and I'm sure your wife knows more about cars than I do... which is why however, I'm trying to gain some insight and knowledge on these forums by asking such "noob" questions so that I can do things right and learn how to fix things. ANYWAY, the stud is broken (another one is broken too -_-'), and now I'm just trying to find some studs and 6mm nuts asap since I need my car for school. Now I just need to learn how to remove the valve cover and change the studs. Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated.
Take one bolt from the opposite side, or the two halves of the broken bolt out, go to home depot ,ace hardware, oreielys, lb jhonson, or google fastner and bolt stores and your zip code and I'm sure you will find what your looking for in about ten minutes frommmmmmm now.....
I just got the service manual for my car actually, and I'm getting the haynes one too.
@turbohatch96y7 That sounds like a much better idea than buying the bolts from a honda parts dealer and having to pay 14 dollars to ship 2 bolts and 2 nuts... Thanks for the suggestion!

@Grumblemarc well yeah your right about me not having facts on this kids history here on HT. I just became a member yesterday sheesh.
At least the kid dint come off like an assh*le. Hes gotta learn at some point and is trying to do so on here I guess. Granted we've all got our abilities as far as mechanics go and for me, I would personally not let a missing VC nut get past me when I was his age. His learning curve is probably a bit slower than yours or mine was.
Anyway, I aint here to get all drama on nobody so dont take it that way. Im here to learn about my Honda/Acura. First car to leave me stranded!
