Default whats the voltage supposed to be when engine is off?

the car i think is charging at idle i'm getting a reading of 13.78 volts when its below 1000 RPM at idle

but when i turn the engine off the voltage drops down to i don't know what number it takes too long...

i have an optima yellow top in my 90 EX

should be around 12.2-12.8V .. anything much less and you probobly have a dead or dying cell. sounds like you're chrging just fine.. i see 13.8-14.2 depending on RPM/load.
