Brakes squeaking....some suggestions what to do?
my brakes are squeaking, and i dont want to have to bring it to a auto mechanic if i dont have to, any suggestions on how to figure out whats wrong and what to do?
are they new? If not when wuz the last time you had them replaced. Are they possibly the *screamers* or are they actually squeaking? More Info please.
*they tell you when you need you need to replace them. THEY SCREAM AT YOU!*

How old are they? Check how much material is left. If there is a good amount, its most likely just the grease on the back of the pads that wasnt put on properly or at all. Get some of that grease, put it on the back of the shims and you're good to go.

Do they squeak really loud when you hit the brakes? Are they old/new? Probably just screamers, time for new pads.
i do not know how old or new the brakes are, i got the car when it had 40k on it and now it has 50 and the last couple weeks i have been slamming on them b/c i almost got in about 6 accidents......i do believe they are screaming but im not sure....thanx for the help tho
do they make noise regardless if your applying the brakes or not? or is it only when you are applying the brakes? if they make noise even when the car is in motion but brakes aren't applied its probably down to the wear indicators and time for new pads... did they just recently start doing this? or has it always done this? the reason I ask is some pads just make noise...
when cold my Hawk HPs make a squeak but once they warm up they don't... I know the pad material is good and that I bedded them in correctly and I put anti-squeal compound no the back.... if I don't wash my car for a while I notice it squeaks also... anyway I'd suggest checking how much pad material is left... maybe its time for new pads...

Yeah man sounds likes you need new pads you can tell how much life is left on the pads by simply taking off the wheels if you cant see them thru the wheel. If they are low its time to change the pads. It will cost you under $50 bucks for fronts and back pads thats including the no squeak grease and some break clean. You will need some tools. A nice mechanic socket set some screw drivers and of course jack and jackstands. You can use just the the stock jack that came with the car but be carefull. You also might want to buy a manual.

Change the pads. If you do it yourself, buy good quality. Spend at leat $45. They will fit better and not move around in the calipers. I have went the cheap route in the past ($16 pads) and they made noises. Anyway be sure to use some disc brake quiet. It usually comes in a spray can and you coat the back of the pads with it. It keeps the pads from squeaking against the calipers. (Dont spray the friction side of the pads though.......

yea i got them fixed and i needed 4 new pads, and 2 rear rotors.....400 bucks
It works just fine, and so far I have only spent $75 for brand new front rotors and pads, and another $14 for rear pads. Replacing pads is VERY easy, especially on the front (bit more labor intensive on the back). Replacing the rotors is easy except for those screws that hold them in. You have to use an impact driver to remove them, or drill them out and replace them (what I did). I didn't bother resurfacing or replacing the rear rotors since they don't do nearly as much work as the front ones. When I get money I will probably go with some nice Hawk pads, braided SS lines, and Motul or ATE fluid.
