Recently, I bought a nice Civic with custom cold air intake unit installed. When I took it to the smog shop, the guy said it is not street legal in Ca and he refuse to pass it eventhough the numbers are passing with flying colors. Does anyone know why? Increase power and fuel efficiency sound pretty good to me.

 

did it have the carb legal sticker on it? if not, then no.

get an oem intake arm and box.

This is why I don't live in Cali.

Go to a junkyard and pull a stock airbox, or spend the money for an intake that comes with a C.A.R.B. sticker.

Yeah. I got it passed with another shop a friend of mine is the tech. Just on the safe side, I ordered a quality used stock air intake for the next smog check or got pulled over by a cop.

 

I think I can buy a AEM sticker about $20 on eBay. Not sure if it is good enough to pass the smog though.

 

Is CAI a brand name?

 

I know AEM is a Riverside Ca company. I think mine is an AEM. Not sure if they will issue a replacement sticker if the serial number match.

Hey guys, what is the proper way to clean the cold air intake filter? quick steps pls!!!

 

This is why I dont live in cali. Emissions testing and to many regulations.... About the filter I'm gonna get one soon but I don't think it is cleanable it should be like normal filters so id say buy a new filter

 

Aem/k&n filters are cleanable, in my experience warm water with dawn to help break down tough residue, blast it out carefully and thouroughly with ur garden hose, dry it VERY thoroughly, and apply filter oil as necessary, i believe k&n sells a recharger kit with the proper oil.
