Default Let's Play "What is this!?!"

Hey guys, I'm sort of surprised this forum is still somewhat running. I think my accord is on the way out but I'm keeping it going by simplification of everything.

If anyone has the knowledge as to what the components in the picture are on the left attached to the firewall let me know. The manuals are too freakin' small to tell what they are pointing to. I would like to remove them but I want to know what they are first. I appreciate it!

Those wires (red/white) definitely do not appear to be OEM....

Especially considering how it appears they are run through the firewall.

You should post what year/make/model/trim you have.

I believe it is too but I looked through the vacuums and it's not connect so it must be connected in the ECU software. I've seen some people remove these components, but what do they end up doing with their EGR valve since it's bolted to the head?

Sorry I should have posted more information. The red and white are running to my headlights since the stock harness got damaged awhile back. The wires are only running behind the components. It's a 1996 Honda Accord EX Sedan that has been modified out of pure enjoyment.

Do you think it's okay to remove them? If so what do I do with the EGR? Electronically keep it closed?

So let me get this straight, you figure your Accord is done for and you figure the best way to prolong it's existence is to remove the emissions components?

Let's try this again, what exactly is wrong with the car? Or what symptoms are you having that make you think this is a good idea?

agreed removing any of that will do nothing to help your vehicle. also the picture your provided is not the correct photo for your engine setup. im guessing you either have an f22b1 or b2. your egr vacuum hose running towards the drivers side was what stood out. hoping this red and white wires are a simple aftermarket fog light setup

like stated above what exactly is going on?

The car doesn't have any other emissions components left. There's a small remaining vacuum leak and I'm curious if these are the culprits. My brother owned the cat before me, and he removed a few components. These solenoids have open ports that I have blocked off. If these were connected to something at one point but no longer are, do they still serve a purpose.

I don't have this specific manual for the F22b1 so I used the closest I could. Most systems remain the same cross model as long as it was from the same time.

So the ECM has been reprogrammed then?

Well Im going to guess that the TB off may be a big leak... BA-DOOMP-TSH.
If you cannot find a loose vacuum line then try using an unlit propane torch while the engine is running. The propane gas will be sucked into the leak and the engine should change speed.
What makes you think it is a vacuum leak?

I thought those were to do with the EGR and EVAP controls. No real point in disconnection or disabling any of them. In fact The car will run like *** without some of those components. It's not 1976 anymore.

The 94-97 are fairly similar cars, but keep in mind that the later 96/97s are OBD II, modifications to the system will not be as simple to do, as on the 94/95.

what car and what engine? the firewall mounted stuff is usually a prelude or 90-93 accord, but the engine appears to be from a 94-97 accord. they all use the same sensors, but they are in different locations, some of those things are on the driver side inner fender.
for example i see that you have a map sensor hooked up on the throttle body AND one plugged in on the firewall.

I have altered the ECU with a piggyback I designed. I'm working towards redesigning the ECU soon. Hah, yeah there's a little pressure leak through that GIANT hole. Well it just seems weird to keep components to a system that doesn't exist anymore. Plus, who cares about the EVAP canister. I have the F22B1 VTEC 96 Accord EX. There are two MAPs?!?!?!? What the fudge?

pressure leak at the throttle body area? change the gasket. the oem ones are not meant to be used twice. i usually buy the felpro gasket maker rolls at autozone and cut my own.

you only have 1 map. with the throttle body sitting upright it is the sensor on the top. the sensor on the firewall is the evap purge sensor. guessing you dont have emissions in your area if your trying to remove all these things. again what are you having problems with. what is the car doing or are you just trying to clean up the engine bay?
