Default Trying to fix EM1 foglights.. Smh..

Ok so I just bought my EM1 last week and now I'm diagnosing the little issues it has... So I'm starting off with the fog lights...

So I asked the guy when I bought it what was going on with why only 1 fog light worked and he had no idea.. He bought the car from a mechanic @ honda and it shows, there is no ghetto wires or anything like that, or half *** electric taped connections, everything is very clean for the most part... So I drive it home from Tampa (about 4 hours) and I notice the other fog light is out now when I get home...

So I take off the bumper to get to the fog lights and figured I'd try to check the bulbs out first, so I take off the fogs and get to the bulb (not a huge pain but what's up with this bracket, as in how do I remove the H3 bulb) <~~ that's my first question..

And next, I went to chase the wire to a relay thinking maybe it's hooked up to an inline fuse like how I had my fog's on my eg, but than I found this... The 2 fogs are connected together, than I traced the wire loom up into the rear side of the driver headlight and it's spliced into another wire loom with a red wire sticking out and a plug connected to it.. Does this mean the fog's are wired to the headlights..??

Any help would be appreciated.. So just as a rundown..
1) Am I supposed to splice that wire and tap into it with a new H3 bulb, since I can't fit the bulb through that hole in the fog light bracket..??
2) If my fogs are wired right to my headlights and not turning on with the headlights, and have no relay, than it's like 99% the bulbs are bad correct..??

There are eleventy-billion "how to wire foglight threads". If your lights are not wired up similar to this
http://www.passwordjdm.com/Install_N...tall_Notes.pdf
then you need to make it so that they are.

See that's what I don't understand, there is a stock fog light switch in the car but they're not wired to that...?? weird...

So basically mine were just wired into the headlights and that's probably why they don't work anymore..

But about replacing the H3 bulbs from my fog light's bracket, any ideas..?? Do I have to splice it and put a female connected on there to plug into the H3 fog bulbs I got from the store..??

Also in that picture diagram posted above, it only shows the H3 having one white wire coming from the fog, but mine has a blue wire in there as well ( I believe it's the ground ) but yeah, that's where I'm confused because I'm not sure if I splice the wire and tap into it with a new connected/bulb...??

So what I'm basically trying to figure out is when changing out an H3 bulb do I have to splice it into the fog harness, because the wire itself goes through a metal plate (back of the foglight) and the hole is small that the wire goes through without having room to fit the bulb itself through.. Leaving me to believe it has to be cut to be removed...

Splice that wire or metal comin out of the h3 bulbs and connect it to whatever there is to power them and it should ground itself If not you have to ground it somewhere

I had the EXACT same problem on my ek fog lights. I thought you were suppose to just take out the bulb and leave the wires, until i broke the bulb and found out you werent suppose to. When you buy a new H3 bulb, it comes with the entire wire, plus bulb. You have to take the metal end from the white plastic cap, and replace it with the new bulb, and bring it down, mine was a lot shorter so its not with the ground wire anymore. Make sure you put the new bulb wire through the black hole on the metal fog light cap so it doesnt hang out and water gets in. My fog lights both went out within 2 weeks, but i have ebay ones. After i replaced, works perfectly for a few months now. If you have any other questions you can pm me

those fogs are not oem the blue wire is a ground and should be bolted up to the tab that holds the bulb in place. also the h3 bulb has one wire for + and the base works as a - thats why blue wire needs to be attached to bulb retainer....i dont see a plug on the bulb white wire so you will have to cut it to install new bulb

Yea you have to use a super small flat head to unsocket the white wire. And you just replace with a new one.

you mean like a small female terminal, and plug the light into that.?? I was thinking about doing that just to lengthen the white wire coming out of the new h3 since it's so much shorter than the white wire of the bulb on there now...

ok so i took off the kick panel and the fog light switch doesn't have anything connected to it, but there is a blue wire going into a 7.5mm fuse and than its connected to another blue/black stripe wire with silver marks on it..???

so on the bottom right of that picture, the darker blue wire going into that plug is tapped into a 7.5amp fuse in the fuse panel... but I can't seem to find out where the other end of that plug with the blue/black wire goes... it may not even be fog related but I'm just trying to cut out all variables.. i still dont understand how he had the fogs working when there is no switch harness...??

Which 7.5A fuse are you talking about?

Ok so I just got ahold of the person I bought the car from and he told me that he didn't have the PnP harness so he just wired them into that 7.5amp license plate fuse... But if the fuse is good and I just put a brand new bulb and they still don't work, wtf lol..!?!

I also just tested for power with my multimeter and both connectors are getting 11-12v but when I plug in the bulb, nothing..!?!?

Just to test out another route, I unplugged the harness coming from the foglight to the harness on the car, I inserted a piece of speaker wire into the <neg> terminal on the harness on the car and I plugged in the bulb into the <pos> terminal on the car harness and than hooked up my multimeter and it shows it's getting power still, but the bulb don't turn on...

When a component gets voltage but still doesn't work, then the next step is to test whether the ground is bad. Use your multimeter to test for continuity to body ground on the ground wire.

The body ground gets 12V as well... It's the ground right near the drivers headlight that was used... I just opened the second bulb and that one doesn't work either..

this is with the headlights turned on, showing that the harness that plugs into the plug on the fogs gets power..

i also just hotwired the H3 to my battery to make sure it works and they both infact do work.. now to find out why they dont work when plugged into the foglight harness..!?!

Ok so I'm back... The new bulbs were fine, bright, perfect.. For 5 hours that is lol... One of them went out already..!! The other is still shining bright but I guess this jerry-rigged version of a foglight harness has to go... I can't imagine a 7.5amp license plate fuse strong enough to keep the fogs lit, or am i wrong..??

Ok so I just sourced out prices for fog harness's and those things are like $50 just for the harness... Anybody know of a DIY that may be a bit less expensive.. I'm willing to spend like 15-20 for whatever I need.. Thanks...
