Default gsr head on b16?

Hi guys, theres a car Im interested in purchasing with a bit of a wierd combo, gsr head on a b16 block. I know that some argue that gsr has better quench characteristics, but just want to know what you guys think.... ie is there going to be a drop or increase in power, etc. the car aslo comes with two b16 heads so those could be built aswell.

Thanks!

unported:
ITR/CTR>GSR>B16a
ported:
GSR>ITR/CTR/B16a

imo

^^ I agree. But I would sell those two spare b16 heads and buy a GSR bottom end, or build and LS bottom end to go with the GSR head.

Sadly the dyno graphs are down now, but a local guy here did the same thing. Made pretty decent power (dont remember the exact numbers though).

Ok, so it looks like it actually gains a bit over a b16 head even in stock form. I would keep the bottom end 1.6 though, I like the r/s of those things... will be a weekend track car that will get hammered on, possibly turbo in the future but I dont know that I want to bing in inherent reliability issues along with that. I just want to have some fun with it.

Displacement > R/S ratio any day of the week.

A GSR will rev just as high and last just as long as a B16, and GSR comp. ratio is much better for boost than b16... Just sayin'

To the OP: the GSR head has quenched combustion chambers and will give you a slight increase in compression with that motor combination, yeilding slightly more power which is negligable at best.

Second, PR3 (b16a) heads are identical castings to ITR/CTR heads. The only difference is cams, dual springs on exhaust, and a very mild port from the factory.

Third, I would take a b16a head over a GSR most likely simply becuase the intake manifold on the gsr has a different bolt pattern, and you will need aftermarket intake manifold in most situations

Bottom line though, any of these heads will work just fine for you, so pick the one in the best condition and go with that... there is really no difference in flow between any of these heads when u compare simply flow (ITR/CTR will flow better in stock form due to the mild porting from the factory) and keep the cam profiles the same.

after porting the difference is minimal iirc. its a little tiny bit better. but unless youre trying to get every last inch of hp out of it i wouldn't bother.

also as stated above you'll need a special manifold since its a GSR and they felt the need to be special.

There's nothing wrong with a GSR intake manifold... Especially if you actually prefer a little bottom end "pep".

Ya the above is what I thought, just wanted to get some opinions. If i go for this car Ill have my choices of head anyhow, which is a plus. Ill think about the gsr bottom too. You'll probably laugh at this one, but ground clearance is of concern where I live too, and I do want to be pretty low (not slammed to hell) and this is an ef we're talking about....
