Problems starting 90 Accord
I have been having trouble with my 1990 Honda accord. From time to time hard to start when it was warmed up and shut off for a couple of min”s. I could let it sit for a short time but usually I sprayed starter fluid it and would start. 2 or 3 times it stalled while driving it either at a light or when slowing to turn right. It always started in the morning when it was cool, but if we waited the afternoon and it was warm. We might have to get out the starter fluid. WHICH HAPPENED YESTARDAY. It took me a bit but she started up. But I noticed the battery sounded like she was running out of juice, and cranking her over slower than normal. I Pulled the batt out put it on a trickle charger over night. At half time today we took the 1 yr. old batt to the store where they tested it and said it was 100%. That’s how we got here.
Basically, the main relay is the ECU/Injectors/fuel pump relay with a polarity protection (in case you reverse your battery cables.) WHICH WOULD BE VERY STUPID, HOWEVER, IT WAS SUPER BOWL SUNDAY, MY FRIENDS AND I DID HAVE OUR SHARE OF BEER AND IT WAS DARK!!!! THE SPARK WAS VERY, AND I DO MEAN VERY SMALL. WE GOT THE FLASHLIGHTS OUT AND TURNED THE BATTERY AROUND. WE DIDN’T THINK MUCH OF IT UNTIL WE WENT TO START THE CAR. HAHAHA THE CAR HAS NO POWER NOTHING EXCEPT BRAKE LIGHTS AND THE HORN……..
We checked all the fuses in both fuse boxes, all good. With a meter we followed the batteries 13.14 volts back to the fuse box under the hood, all good there.
Two months ago I put in a new distributor. Runs a little smoother but didn’t fix the problem. I have a young wife who just got a low paying bullshit job, my unemployment ran out last week and nobody wants to hire a 55 year old ex. Superintendent from the housing industry, any time soon. We also have a little 3 yr old baby girl. We had to rent out 2 rooms in our house just to try and keep it. IN A NUT SHELL, IF WE HAD THE $$ I’D BUY A NEWER CAR OR COULD AT LEAST AFFORD TO GET THIS ONE FIXED.
We can’t throw any more money away on fixes that don’t fix the problem.
Can anyone be of some help and give me a little advice?
Thanks so much,
Greg Peters

Check the "high amp" fuses in the under hood fuse panel....these are like 80 amp or so, they have the clear top and have the brass strips to the sides with screws holding them in, volt meter to both sides and I bet you find one of them blown.
