hey guys my 98 itr just had all the transmission bearings replaced, costing $1800, this was including input shaft bearing and some other bearings i cant remember rite now. the mechanic said the clutch looked fine, didnt need to be replaced. this was 3 months ago,now all of asudden im driving back from Long Island and the clutch starts to feel weird. i pull into my school and the car just shuts off. before this i noticed the clutch fluid was low so i filled it up and the car worked for the 1 hr drive to li and back, (until it shut off), and rolled to a stop when i reached my school. then i got the car started and the car moved 10 ft and stalled again. so i bleed the clutch 10 times to make sure thats not wat it was.

Summary

- car starts up and runs fine, until i touch the clutch then it starts to stall. if i push the clutch in it immediatly stalls. wtf even the stupid mechanic says hes never seen a problem like this.
give me some help maybe recommend somewhere to bring it in the queens\long island, area

-could this be the throwout bearing? even if the mechanic jerrys transmission in danbury ct, supposedly replaced the bearings and said nothing else was wrong 3 months ago

I have some ideas on what is wrong but it sounds like the best thing to do is take it back to the mach who worked on it and have that person relook/fix it. I'd bet you have some sort of warranty on parts and labor.

 

Is the car in gear when it stalls? Like as in....you're traveling along in 5th gear, then you push in the clutch and come to a stop and the car stalls? That could just mean that the clutch isn't disengaging all the way.

Or does it stall in neutral? That's weirder. Could be some sort of bearing issue. The only car that I ever saw do that was my prelude that I bought with a bad thrust bearing. The thrust bearing was all chewed up and and every time I pushed the clutch in, it created enough crank movement and friction to turn off the car. However, the car was knocking REALLY bad with the clutch in. So...does your car make any crazy noises when you push in the clutch?

 

my guess is a seized throw out bearing

 

Happened to me too back in the day. The car didn't make any crazy noises, though.

Basically once the car is warmed up, wen just sitting there the car will stay running but as soon as u push the clutch it just dies. So we'll see wat happens with it. Hopefully just the throwout bearing.
