Yes, we ALL think we know exactly how a turbocharger properly works, and although I posted a video on the FAQs a long time ago, I don't think it was simplified for different types of turbochargers. So I thought I'd post this one up instead.

This is for ALL OF US. From the novice who don't know what specific components are, to the veteran who wants to be reminded what size turbo is best for them, enjoy this video as just an FYI. I hope this is put to sticky, as this is a bit more modern than the previous videos available right now.

This all depends on the setup, tune and most importantly the driver.

 

Hi. How would you know what size or type of turbo will fit your engine. I'm noob with turbos. I have a 99 Civic Si but with a d16y7 engine.

 

They gain gas mileage since a turbocharger essentially recycles unused thermal energy in the exhaust thereby making the engine more efficient and improving gas mileage. The caveat is that since the engine flows more air and makes more power, it can burn through gas faster if you use the power. Tuning also plays a role in good/bad mileage

Canadian Si = US EX
Canadian Si R = US Si

 

Could have been a simple typo, but he should still have a Y8 engine, not a Y7.

 

Haha a guy I know traded in his SI a couple years ago but not until he swapped in a d series laying around first.
