Default Not Getting the Right Amount of MPG

I have a 92 EG hatch that is not getting the right amount of miles, especially since its a CX with a 70hp d15b8 lawl... Well I've been measuring my gas for the first week, and after using all 10 gallons with only 136 miles... Those numbers don't seem right... 13.6 mpg. I am aware that the fuel gauge on civics tend to be off (A LOT) but, the needle's at the E right now. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong?

The guage doesn't always read right becuase we don't have baffles which allows the gas to move around, which throws the guage off. It's noiting wrong with the car.

Tune up, igntion timing, and any cel's?

Last tune up I had was about 2-3 months ago when I first bought the car. Changed the oil and fuel filters, sparkplugs, ignition wires, and when I ran it through smog the guy said I needed a new catalytic converter since the one on it right now was welded on. My bro took a quick look and he said my engine was idling pretty high.

fuel seepage caused by broke *** neighbors is a possible cause.
bad O2 sensor is another and one of the common causes.

injectors stuck open?

Did you just buy this car? Do you have any check engine lights? Does your check engine light even work?

Has it been significantly or gradually been dropping? I'm wondering if you'll run into a knock sooner or later.

Guy should fix this soon because otherwise he will destroy his catalytic converter VERY QUICKLY if he hasn't done it already so.

He has another thread in the tech section. One of the valve cover bolts was broken off for a long time now and leaking oil and he failed to mention it. Who knows what else he hasn't mentioned.

Alright, so that probably means he has a vacuum leak and the oil is spilling onto the o2 sensor, causing it to detect a lean condition, therefore dump fuel...?

Tires inflated to proper pressure? Are they balanced? Do you know how to drive? Injectors are from 92, have they been cleaned?

Just cause he tuned the car up doesn't mean he's checked everything else. There are plenty of things that can cause lower mpg.

Not saying that. I'm talking about all the other things wrong with the car that he's not felt the need to fix and he's wondering why it's running like crap.

Well unless the cat is plugged, I don't think that would cause 13mpg. 13mpg for a civic is REALLY low unless you're driving ONLY up steep hills.

Well we'll never know if it's plugged or not since it's welded into the exhaust piping. A vacuum leak would cause the car to idle pretty high. I'm trying to make a point here. Fix all the stuff that you know is wrong with your car, like broken valve cover bolts. You might be surprised what issues that might clear up.

I agree, definitely should fix what's obvious.

+1

Just because some said "They can work on your car" doesn't mean they know what they are doing.
Have someone look at it that knows what they are doing.

(No offense to your friend, just had to follow up on others that "Knew what they were doing")

Good luck getting it right.

A full tune up would also include replacing the cap and rotor and adjusting the ignition timing. Also check for CEL codes.
