Greetings!

I am having a problem with my friends 95 civic, he got a head gasket job a couple of weeks ago and the damper bolt backed out once. I tightened up with an impact gun until the bolt did not move anymore but he called me and told me it did back out again. So i honestly dont know what could be causing it since i did not work on the car so i dont know if everything is put like it should be.

Would an overtightened timing belt cause that to happen? if not what other things would cause that?

Great i just noticed i put this in the honda accord category..

 

If the pulley is not sitting flush against the crankshaft or there is debris between the crankshaft and pulley, the bolt may lose tension. Also, if the bolt was overtighened and stretched, it may have been weakened which could cause it to back out.

Those are a couple of ideas off the top of my head. Hope this helps.

 

sometimes when it backs out (due to say not being tightened enough) it screws up the threads in the crank or on the bolt and wont ever tighten again

 

I've had over tighten t-belts on my engine before, and it whurrs like no other; none of the crank pulley bolt has ever backed out.

Have you guys tried blue lock tite?
