Default homemade carbon fiber headlight intake

i was wondering how i would go about doing this for a prelude headlight. now i know how to lay the carbon fiber to form the final result. the quesiton i have is how would i go about doing this project?

i was thinking the easiest way would be to:
1.take off the headlight clear lens casing
2. remove the metallic refleciton layed over the black housing
3.cut a good sized hole where the high/low beams would be
now this is the part im having issues with. could i lay the cabron fiber into the plastic headlight now and put epoxy resin over it? or would i have to make a mold of the headlight out of fiberglass and then somehow do it that way?

iwant something like the password jdm headlight intake ducts Exmaples:

it seems like it would be easier to lay the carbon fiber into the headlight housing and be done, but would the carbon fiber/epoxy resin be adhesive to the plastic black housing?
long post im sorry but if anyone has any advice let me know.

thanks

It's called custom for a reason. Get creative. And, *gasp* it may take you more than one try before you get it the way you want.

Yeah I would make a mold of the headlight first, if you fudge up the process using the mold its going to be much easier to start over. If you want to just use the headlight as the mold... make sure you scuff the surface up really well so it has something to "bit" to.

Start with a fiberglass mold. Make a few.

yea i was wondering if the cabron epoxy mix will stick to the bare black housing plastic

i dont want an entire carborn fiber headlight i just want basically the rectangular black square where the high and low beams are.. so if i molded it out of fiber glass, then shaped the carbon fiber in the fiberglass mold, how would i take the carbon fiber and make it stick into the black housing?

lol i dont even know why you responded to my thread you gave me no advice. my main quesiton:

will the epoxy carbon fiber mix stick to the black housing plastic inside the headlight?

and if not and i need to make a fibergalss mold, mold the CF in the FG mold, take it out, then put it in the headlight housing it will just fall out(obviously)

so is there an adhesive that would work good to hold the carbon fiber mold into place?

So what i think you want is a carbon fiber insert for the headlight?

I don't think you get it. Its custom. These are the types of problems you run into when doing something from scratch. It seems to me you have TWO issues to overcome. Make the mold/part and then find a way to install/mount said part.

TBH I am having a hard time picturing exactly what your train of thought is for something that, I think , should be a simple enough thing to fabricate. I know how to lay fiberglass and carbon fiber. it's also not that hard.

If it were me, I'd buy a spare headlight. Hack the crap out of it. Use it as a base for the intake and fiberglass it. Carbon fiber the finished piece. Incorporate mounting brackets as needed (which you shouldn't need it you use the headlight as the base). All that equals prototype.

I think you're making it harder than what it is and frankly if you have to come on a forum and ask how to go about creating YOUR custom piece then I think this might be a bit beyond you.

Why not just use the black headlight housing by itself? If you're just going to reproduce the shape of the housing with carbon fiber then what is the benefit? Are you just looking for the looks of carbon fiber, or a few grams of weight savings?

That's what I'm saying. It's not clear exactly what is being planned here past this part being made of carbon fiber. If you look at the old Civic ones the design was dead simple. Do the same and wrap it in CF.
