HELP!!!! LOST MASTER KEY TO 5TH GEN. TYPE SH
I recently lost my main/master key for my prelude. Also, I had no spare key. I called honda and they said for me to tow my car there($65), then they would need to make me a key with a chip in it ($357) and reprogram it to my car ($120) ans thats not including tax. Thats labout $600! Just for one key. Dayem. Anyways i was woundering if there was any other way to get around this? Could I go pull out parts from another same generation prelude type sh and use there parts for my car? I was thinking I find a person thats parting out a prelude(same gen and sh model) that still has there key and wat parts would i need? Is this possiable? Thanks in Advance.

This exact same thing happened to me. I actually had my red key,but it didn't matter. Here's what you need to do to solve this:
1. Call up your Honda dealer, have them cut you a key based on your VIN. You'll probably have to go in to do this, but it can be done.
2. Find a good locksmith. I was lucky I had a pro in my area. He'll use the key made from the dealer as a template to make you a new key that will contain a chip. Then he should program the key to match the car. I believe he would need to hook up some kind of device to the car in order to read/write these codes.
This cost me less than $300. Honda was telling me I needed a new immobilizer unit and all kinds of crap. They said they'd do it for over $800... **** that.
If it helps at all, the locksmith I went to was Jose Hernandez, owner of Omega Locksmith. http://www.facebook.com/OmegaLocksmith
I hope you're able to get this worked out. Good luck!

This should work http://www.j32a.com/showthread.php?t=270
or you could do this option.

then have the dealer/locksmith reprogram it

Yeah, locksmith is definitely the way to go in this situation. There are even guys who do it on ebay by mail. Send the immobilizer computer box and they send it back with keys programmed to it.
If you have a donor car you can switch parts but the key, immobilizer computer, and engine computer all have to be matched, so you would have to swap in the ignition lock and both computers from the donor car.

i had a similar situation. the cheapest way i found was to find a obd1 ecu since 97 ludes r obd2. then get a obd2a jumper harness to obd1 then as long as u have the obd2a wiring harness going to the motor this will bypass the immobilzer completly since obd1s dont read them or anything there fore alowing u to get a simple prelude key that will turn the ignition and bingo immobilzer bypassed. my total expenses for this was 150$ish. but i already had a spare key to turn ignition. also you cld try and go find a steering column with immobilzer and ignition in tact with a master key then redo the ecu through honda or some1 that knows how to do it as said b4. also the imobilzer box is easy to open up and if u know what ur doing with the circuit board find what u need to do to bypass it
