HELP!! I lost my keys and don't know what to do.
Alright I lost my only key (I know I should have made a copy) to my car. What should I do? what's the cheapest/best way to get a new key?

I dont know how it is in the states, but here in Australia all gen 5 preludes have some funky type of key that can only be created from a red master key that comes with the car...and if i remember correctly, if this key is lost, the locks on the doors need to be changed....
But if this is not the case, or you have an earlier gen, then yeah, just take your vin down to your dealer...

The safest way way is to go to the honda dealer. You actually can't have your key made by someone else. Because as I remember and the honda dealer said that the key has a chip or something so that it can deactivate the immobilizer system when starting the car. I have also heard of a key with a red don't but I never got one and the honda dealer where I bought the car didn't know anything about it. Hope this helps

when you bought your lude you should have gotten four keys...two black (regular) keys, one grey (valet) key, and one red (master reset) key. along with the keys is a metal tag with you serial number for your key.
if you talk to the dealership they should be able to cross reference the vin with your registration and the key serial number so that they can either create or order you a new key.
btw never use the red key...it is inserted and then removed the car will no longer function until the dealership reprograms the ecu.

All this talk about the key that is supposedly un-copyable... makes me think..
I remember a while back I had my car in the body shop getting the bumper fixed. When I went to pick up my car.. the manager said my black key had broke. He then goes "here is a copy we got for you." The key works - it turns the car on, although it only functions as a valet key. I cannot open the trunk with it, or the glove compartment, etc. But it turns the car on. What use is this special key that supposedly can't be duplicated when it actually CAN BE??

So you guys know, I went down to the honda dealership and they made me a new key in just a couple minutes and it was only $5. Thanks for the help. My lude is back on the road!
