Icon2 1996 Civic EX. Cruise Control Problem.

The cruise control turns itself off. The light will come on and it seems to work, but it will not work long. Often you can try to turn it on and the dash light will not come on and the switches have no effect. Can I replace a switch or a fuse to fix this?

Does the light in the button stay on?

I have not noticed a light in the button. Only on the dash. I have had the car for a few months,so I do not know much about it. My first Honda.

When you press the cruise control button on the left dash, the green light in the button should illuminate. When cruise turns off, does the button light turn off also?

No, the light on the button does not work or I have not noticed it. All I noticed was the light in the instrument cluster. It came on and it worked for a few miles then cut off and would not come back on.

I'm trying to tell you that it's a problem if the button light doesn't work.

Dashboard switch/button light may be burnt out (even though this is unlikely), so this is not a sure-fire way of diagnosing the problem. For starters, swap the bulb with a known good then post back here whether it turns Green when you engage it with the car ON.

Will this identify/diagnose the problem? Not sure, but it's definitely the place to start.

Haha, yes, poor choice of words on my part. "Start" to diagnose is much more accurate. It may be a long road ahead.
