Icon2 GOPRO SETTINGS

hey guys i just recently got a hd gopro and just wondering what settings do you guys use?. as of right now i'm using r3 and cnt for exposure. when i first used my gopro *mounted inside the car* and played it back all i can see is the inside of the car and me but the outside is pretty bad i mean you can't see the road at all it's like looking straight in the sun lol. i'm still learning the settings of this thing when it get's alot nicer out i will be playing with it more any tips or pointers would be highly appriciated .

and what website/progam do you guys use to upload your video's i tried using vimeo *basic one* and it says that my video is too large i tried using youtube and it says it will be done for like 106 minutes until it's done uploading it so i say screw it and cancel the upload then again the video was like 9 minutes long . i'm not computer savy so please be gentle with me .

and if anyone is wondering why i posted here in this section is cause i'm pretty sure most everyone has a gopro and uses in the track, hence why i bought the gopro for track use. well thanks for reading my sorry *** problem and looking forward for the replies, please don't flame for this dumb questions lol

I remember with my Sony TRV280 I would get the same exposure (looking out everything was washed out). And figured out I had to open my sunroof 1st, press record, and then close the sunroof and the camera would reset it's exposure to something higher so it would record outside the car.

You have to set the exposure to bright sunlight not auto. Auto it will take an average of what's inside the car. Works fine if you suction cup the GoPro outside the car.

Or what you can do is start the camera outside the car and then mount it inside your car and edit it later.

Actually this is a pretty good question... not many camera set up questions.
Mainly what camera do you have, and yada yada yada.

One thing you dont mention is where you have it mounted....?

Yes its in the car but where? play with the angles a bit.
My camera sits just about shoulder height on my center hoop on the cage.
It views the whole windshield area and outside very well.
Since you dont have to be on track to test it.. unless this car isnt steet legal go play with it , and go around the block a couple times.
Test all the settings and see what works best for you.
Its almost like a suspension question.. test test test.

I dont use any video software to upload my vids.. just use vimeo or youtube themselves.
Maybe you have a slow internet connection?

I use r3 and spot metering (instead of cnt) when my gopro is inside the car and it's sunny outside. My interior is black, so it worked out well.

There's no getting away with having to wait for a video to upload. A lot of the times, that 106 minutes isn't really 106 minutes either. Just be patient. Trimming your video down will make for a faster upload. No one will want to watch your whole 20 minute session. I'm not trying to be mean, but it's the truth. Get to the good stuff. Trim it down to less than 5 minutes unless it's Nurburgring. As far as editing software on a PC, I'm not sure. I use my Macbook for these things, which has iMovie and uploads directly to Vimeo and Youtube.

You don't need a editing software to upload to Youtube. I think you can upload directly from your computer, just like uploading a picture to Photobucket.

^ what donut said you need to use spot metering when inside the car and it will fix the problem you had.

thanks for the input guys
dirty-my gopro is mounted in the middle of my emracing braces in the back
donut-yeah after i'm done watching my video i read the manual again and change my cnt to spot metering but by the time i did that it was already dark outside so hopefully when it's nice out again i can try using that setting.

as for uploading yeah i guess i'll just have to be patient lol i need to update my computer cuz the first time i use it on my labtop it didn't even play the vid, so i use the wife and works like a charm. will most likely updating my moviemaker and media player after work tonight if everything turns out good i'll post my first vid here lol

Does anyone else think that 60FPS on normal speed looks fake? It is noticeably faster, almost too quick and things look jumpy. I usually use 720p 30FPS. The photo burst mode is pretty cool to mess with too. This one caught me right on the 2-3 shift. Look at how the RPM's blurred! This was the first day I got the thing, I had to take it for a drive after work and see how well the Hero 2 does at night.

I really need to get a Hero2. The night shots suck when I record them.

But for sure, use spot metering. Here's what each will do.

FWIW, here's night shot from a Canon PowerShot ELPH 300HS (sub $200 shipped from amazon). I think the quality is pretty darn good... I also bought 2 different camera mounts for it. One is suction cup, the other one I will mount to a harness bar...

the problem with this camera is it only shoots 10min clips at a time. But the quality of video day and night is amazing.

Quality and stabilization pretty good for being held by hand..Can only get better if it were in a mount!

Agreed. Also the 720p/30 mode has a bit more manageable file size. That is what I use most of the time.
