Default 2000 accord (transmission) 3.0

v6 3.0

I got the car when it was at about 160k miles

I've gotten it up to 195k now and ever since I bought it, it shifts pretty rough.

Here are some things I noticed about the tranny.

-when i shift from park to reverse to drive to reverse (etc) it makes a cracking/clicking noise

-when im driving, it shifts from 1st to 2nd, i can kinda feel it jerk

-when i floor it off a roll (say im going 30 mph and then i stomp on it) it takes a while to respond (about a 1.5 second delay)

-shifts kinda rough when i floor it as well

Any idea on what's going on there?

Hey,

If you're looking for a quick easy answer... good luck. Here is something to read through, while it doesn't discuss your specific vehicle, a lot of the info will apply.http://techauto.awardspace.com/trans...roubleshooting

I found it very informative.

Those 4 speed trannys are kinda weak my friend. so bad, that there was a class action lawsuit against Honda of America. And, they lost. lol

warranty was extended to 105k and/or 7 years, repair was free of charge.

Your symptoms are normal for a transmission that is about to fail. Sorry. The clutchpacks are worn out. The hesitation you have when you floor it from a roll is the clutch packs slipping and not engaging until 1-2 seconds later.

You will need a rebuild job. When you have it rebuilt, make sure to use:
NEW OEM or BETTER components, including the clutchpacks.
NEW OEM torque converter -- do not use a reconditioned or rebuilt converter.
NEW OEM Transmission fluid pressure switches (there are 2)
NEW OEM internal transmission filter

Also, use the Honda OEM fluid or Redline D4(this one has a little bit less Friction Modifier in it and is made from a much better base).

Lastly, add an external transmission cooler. This is to keep the heat down during the hot months. Heat kills the protection factor in the fluid and shortens the lifespan of the fluid itself.

Maintenance/longevity tip:
- Change the fluid every 25k miles. 3x3 drain and fill. Never flush it with a machine. NEVER.
- Change the pressure switches every 50k miles.
- When it is about to shift gears, let off the gas, let the gear "fall" into place, then get back on the throttle. This saves wear and tear on the clutchpacks. **

** Later down the road, what honda engineers did is add a ECU throttle cut during the Automatic tranny shifts for both the 03-07 Accords and 04-08 Acura TL's. Eliminating the power during shifts is what helps your clutchpacks last.

Do you suggest I rebuild it now or wait till it goes out?

If you want to rebuild it, I would start sourcing parts now. Buy the OEM parts from an online dealer, unless your local Honda dealer will price match the onlice prices. My local Honda dealer doesn't price match, so I don't use them.

Majestic Honda and BK Honda are good. I've used both.

See I'm thinking of dropping one of these bad boys in it instead

I mean, that's basically a new car for under 2k. What do you think?

^da ***? downsize to a 4 banger?

either route you take, you gonna need to rebuild or swap a tranny. so add another 2-3k on top of your used motor that MIGHT work.
