can anyone tell me what this is?
this part is on a 02 accord standard and recently a friend of mine and myself found out the cable on it is frayed, but i have no idea what it is can you guys help me identify it?
yeah that top part with the cables, it moves around when you play with the shifter, i wanted to know what it is and what it does and yeah its on the top of the tranny
it moves around a lot, and if you notice, the cable is frayed on the right side one. the problem we're having is that when in 1st, the car struggles to get up to speed and he usually has to put some gas into it to get it going

huh? maybe i just don't understand your wording... the cable transfers motion from the shift lever to the shifter mechanism in the trans. please clarify.
OP: find a cable in the junk yard. they don't fail often so even a well used one should last you the remaining life of the vehicle.
If I recall correctly, on a shift cable set up, there is a linkage that goes from the shift cable to the transmission. There is a boot on either end of the shift cable. Motion is correct, but when the engine spins and the tc hooks up, how does the power go from tranny to shift cable? But then again, I'm not a tranny expert nor will I ever be. Just sounds like its either an engine or tranny issue.
