btw, congrats on getting accepted into Octane Academy... you'll be competing against two vegas drivers though (the girl sucks, the other is quite a good driver).

Billy Elliot, what tires do you use?

PS: snow and ice racing is quite popular in siberia in winter

Are you using spiked tires?

Thanks! I was in Block's camp which didn't have any female drivers. Vaughn Gittin Jr's camp is the one with the two girls. It was still a lot of talent in my camp. The pole vaulter didn't just do pole vaulting, he drove open wheel cars as well and was a GM test driver if I remember.

Running off the shelf Hot Bits but I was running about 60% softer spring rate for the snow/ice.

Just running standard General Altimax Arctics. I really wish I had them tractionized but I don't have access to one. I will be building my own for following years.

Just a roof vent. I can open it forward or back. When I have it back I'm blasting the heat on the windscreen and it helps to clear the hot/humid air out of the car so it doesn't fog. On hot rallies I will turn it the other way to blow cold air on myself since we can't run with the windows down more than an inch.

And no studs. Rally America doesn't allow studs in their events, which makes it VERY interesting when we were racing on sheet ice this weekend.

Thomas Smith is the guy to watch out for. VERY VERY quick driver! Although primarily a time attack guy, I've raced with him in karts and autocross and he's routinely top three for FTD. Very friendly and humble guy too...

You wouldn't happen to be competing at the 100 archer woods?

try Continental Conti Ice BD or Nokian Hakkapelita. They are much better, especially on pure ice.

Planning on making it. I had a CKP sensor CEL that came up on LSPR but I was able to bypass it keeping the motor running. Didn't have much problem with it after that.

Replaced the dizzy before Sno*Drift. However, it came back and was a bit more difficult to bypass. Sometimes it would come up on stage when I dropped the revs and not go away when I reset the car/ecu. Got real bad on one stage where I did 1/3 of it with the CEL on and in limp mode and couldn't go any faster than 45mph and rev above 3500rpm.

So I need to 100% sort that issue out, as 100AW is a very fast rally and would sure suck to be in limp mode on any stage.

I ran the Hakkas last year on one day with the Generals on another day. Didn't notice any difference between the two, I actually ran more competitive times on the Generals. Also, the Hakkas were very fragile. I bubbled two sidewalls and gashed another sidewall. Generals are a lot tougher. The Generals, from what I hear, are a Nokain tire mold that has been re-branded.

As far as the Continental, my friend is a test driver for Continental and I got a free set of tires from him back in 2009. He gave me the Generals over the Conti Ice because he said they were much better when he tested them.

Also I run these un-cut and un-modified. So the tread blocks are a bit more spaced on the General so they have better snow traction when there is snow.

If I was to get a pure dedicated ice tire, I would run a Blizzak. The Subaru USA team runs Michelin X-ice and Rockstar Evo team runs w/e the Yoko ice tire and they both tractionize them. But they are under sponsorship deals. However, the Subaru USA team ran the X-ice and won the event, so they can't really be that bad of a tire.

i ran last year on x-ice north and loose a lot of time against winners on conti tires. this year all winers here use conti tires or rarely hakka7. maybe tires of one model are different in us and russia.

what camber and toe in angles do you run with?

i use on ek civic with f20b dohc engine -1.5 degrees of camber on all whells.

do you use additional front or rear ballast to modify car balance?

Run about 2.5° camber up front and 1.5° out back. Depending on grip level I'll run 1.5° if it's slippy. I run 3° up front for tarmac.

For Toe. I run 2mm toe in up front and 3mm toe in the back.

For the road racing guys who will ask why I don't run toe out. You try running toe out at 100mph down a bumpy dirt road and tell me how stable it feels. Stabily = speed in rally.
