Default How to avoid getting my car totalled?

Last Saturday I went to autozone to get a bulb and not even a minute later I hear a crash outside and some guy in a chevy backs into my car and dents the crap out of my hood and pushes in my passenger headlight. We swap info and etc his insurance tells me to go get an estimate and fax it over. So I get the estimate and the total comes out to $2300 not even including the hidden damages.

I'm kinda shitting bricks now knowing that there is a good possibility that my car is going to get totaled and get a salvage title which is something that I don't want to happen. I was thinking of just taking the hit on the chin and just repairing everything myself, but is it already too late since I've already sent them the cost of the repairs or will they give me an option of totalling it or dealing with the damage?

go somewhere else. Are you going to fix it yourself? Have the estimate writer get you a dollar amount just below total. Most of them are pretty cool about that.

I'd say, repair the car yourself with the amount they'll give you and make it inspected. If things turn bad, buy another one, swap parts you wanna keep and keep the other one for parts or sell them if needed.

First things, first, check and see how much your car was worth before being hit. They will only call it a total loss if it's worth less than what it would cost to fix it.

just submit it and wait and see. its not as if your car is going to take much of a hit in value with a salvage/rebuilt title, it already is at best a 16 year old car.

There's not a whole lot you can do once the insurance company is involved. They will send a check and more than likely will have a salvage title. The only way a vehicle is totalled is if the driving wheels and repairs exceed value. If this was your insurance company you might have the option to buy it from them and they give a check but you'd be responsible to fix it.
