Dont know which to pick for a swap on my 97 civic. Which one is better?

F20B specs:
Horse Power: 200hp@8000
Compression: 10.6:1
Red Line: 8200 rpm
Torque: 145 lb-ft@7500

H22A specs:
Horse Power: 200@6800
Compression: 10.6:1
Red Line: 7200 rpm
Torque: 161 lb-ft@5500

 

Just get an h22 it does have more torque but if you can bore out the f20b to 87mm to get some more out of it. F20b has 11.0:1 compression pistons but you should just get the h22 you can have power faster at a lower rpm range. I had an f20b in a 92 prelude and i would still eat b16 civics and gsr's so i don't know pick one also the f20b does not have oil squirters but it still last long on high rpm usage. I also used 83 octane on it because i had the dizzy at full retard i could of used 93 octane gas and had better acceleration on it but i was young and did not know lol.

personally having had both engines in my race mk1 golf, i'd go f20b, love the way it revs, 1k more than the h22 stock with scope for 500 - 1k extra maybe, also they dont have the frm liners, they have iron so if you decide that one day you want to boost it, you wont have issues there,

if it had been in something heavier like a lude or accord i would have prob voted h22 for the little extra torque,

 

I know in my lude with everything included power everything the f20b moved pretty well and i also have the f22a1 prelude trans with long gears on it. I don't know but it was pretty torquey to me it even chirped third on a stock clutch. Like i said i used to eat b16 civics with the lude and those long gears.

 

EDM Type R = H22A7/U2Q7
JDM Euro R = H22A/T2W4
JDM SiR-T = F20B/T2T4

 

no replacement for displacement plus the aftermarket parts for h series is easier to find then a f20b, its more on preference then anything else, ppl can put there input but ultimately it comes down to what you want
