B20 into 2000 LS. Want to pass smog, what to get?
Alrighty,
Swapping the motor isn't a big deal, however I want the car to be 100% after the swap. Want to be able to pass smog without any issues.
Car in question is a 2000 Integra LS automatic. I'm planning on keeping the auto and LS ecu and using the stock LS wiring harness.
Question-
What b20 generation of motor do I need to make everything match up to pass smog without any issues?
I've been told the B20z high compression would be my best bet. Is this correct and how do I make sure I'm getting the correct generation of b20?
Thanks HT.

Follow up question.
If I go with a stock LS auto from 96-00. Will a JDM auto have anything different than a USDM auto, motor only?
Wondering if it will have the EGR system or if I need to swap that over, or what all would be needed.
Thanks guys.

I'm in Texas. So basically it just needs to not make the CEL come on. As long as the CEL isn't on I'm pretty confident it'll pass. Just need to know what would be different between the JDM motors vs the USDM motors as far as those items go.
What I've narrowed it down to is if the motor is OBD2, and has a crank sensor and knock sensor I should be good to go. At least from what I've been reading.

If it is a usdm b20z it should be fine, also make sure it is the same year as the car you will be putting it in (2000) everything will be plug and play
and in cali as long as you do the complete change over (usdm engine), meaning same year car/engine, ecu intake, exhaust. You should be able to ref it no problem.

You had an incompetent smog tech or an illegal smog.
Wrong. A B20 is considered a truck engine and is not smog legal in CA.

not really answering my questions guys.
In CA they would consider it an illegal swap do to the fact that it didn't come from a "like model." I get that, but I'm not in CA so that doesn't apply.
I'm looking for differences in the engines themselves betwee USDM and JDM motors. Not power output or internals. Stuff that would need to be changed, or added to make it pass smog in TX (basically no CEL).

didn't pay the guy illegally so it was Incompetence

Well I'm going to just replace the original LS motor with another LS motor. I don't see any positives worth worrying about it passing or not.
