Default Oil Pressure Light

97 Accord. f22b2 auto 152k miles

I was doing errands in town and suddenly noticed that my oil pressure light was somewhat flickering. When I came to a stop the light stayed on solidly. I immediately pulled over, checked the oil level which seemed ok (Car is cooling down now and i will recheck for an accurate reading), and sounded fine. When driving the car drives normal and the light is off, however, as soon as I come to/stop completely the light is on.

I had the oil pressure switch replaced 2 months ago with a CarQuest one because I had an oil leak coming from that switch. Do you think possibly just the switch is bad, or if it was bad would it be on all the time?

Hondas are always loud at idle, would there be a super obvious noise if something was wrong?

Help! I am freaking out!

It could be a host of problems:
1. the engine could be wearing out i.e. - oil clearances getting larger.
2. Wrong grade oil in the engine.
3. A short in the oil pressure switch/wiring.

These are some idea's, sorry I couldn't help you any further.

I'm taking it to work tomorrow so hopefully it'll get diagnosed/fixed.

It has 152k miles on it, so engine wear is definitely a possibility. However, I am the only person that does oil changes on my car so it is Castrol 5w-30 everytime. I am just guessing the oil pump is bad because I test drove it again. There was no light until it warmed up and then it began giving the same systems. It is directly connected to engine rpm as well. At idle or near idle the light begins to glow/flicker and then when you stop it comes on completely.

I might double check to OPS wiring. It sounds like something shook itself loose.

Got it in at work and replaced the unit. Test drove it for a half hour and my drive home is 1 hour and the light never came on. Thankfully!

Guess it was just a bad sensor....hopefully this one lasts longer than 2 months.

At least it's a cheap part... Glad you got it fixed.

James, have you replaced the valve cover gaskets and the spark plug tube seals?
