Sup guys. I got a '98 Civic EX with a d16y7 block and y8 head.

So the other day i went to go buy the alternator at autozone and i had given them the 98 civic EX option and supposedly they gave me the "correct" alternator.

When i went home to put it on, it fit on the bracket. But the alternator would hit at the very top. I'm guessing that part is where you bolt the tension bolt? Also the bolt would not thread onto the alternator.

Anyways my question is ..do i have the wrong bracket or did autozone give me the wrong alternator.

 

Where's the old one and why'd you change it out?

 

swapped it at Autozone for the core charge, it was my fault also because i didn't match them both when they gave me the new one. The lady when to go test my old one and came back with the new one, so i forgot about it. And i assumed it was the right one..i just wanted a new one..old one was rusty etc.

autozone always doin s**** like that, return it and just get another one...maybe thry'll give you the right one thiis time or see if they still got your old one so you can compare it, good luck!

Where's the upper bracket?

 

lol. today i went to the junkyard and discovered that there's also an upper bracket for it to swivel etc. took that upper bracket home and the alternator fit..yehh ima scrub. anyways thanks for the help HT

 

Ummm. How did the old alternator mount if you never had an upper bracket?

the car had another swap..we swapped this motor in and i couldn't remember what it looked like. but the old swap was all in tact.

 

i am not sure if y7, and y8 alternators are different, but you said you have a y7 block, and if you told autozone you need an alternator for a 98 EX, then they would give you an alternator for a Y8...

just curious did you take the old one off? not trying to be a smartass. just funny situation you got there.

btw i known a guy that swapped 6 autozone alternators in 2 3 months(they kept blowing up) eventually he spent some cash and got a refurbished OEM toyota alternator. and its still in the car 3 years later with no issues.

 

nope. my brother took the motor out. i just had forgot that the alternator had an upper bracket also for the tensioner lol
