Default viper alarm not allowing to start with key

well im not sure why my db8 has a nicer alarm than what my em1 comes stock with but it works a little to well lol. i even had a mechanic look at it and we cant figure it out. the problem is that when you try to start the car it has power to the starter but due to the viper alarm being hooked up to the ignition its not allowing it to start with the key. i have to put the key to run then take a screw driver and touch it to the bolt and the wire to the starter. by the way i just go this shell with the viper alarm already in and put in an ls. the alarm has an electric start but that wont even work.

The viper should have a seperate relay for the starter, either it isnt plugged into the brain box or it isnt working correctly. As I recall if you disconnect it from the brain box, it should start just fine, its only when connected that it kills the ignition. Most like it is not installed correctly. It's pretty simple if I'm not mistaken....it has a power and ground. Then you cut your ignition wire from column, run one side into it and the other out (purple in and purple with black out?). Pull the instructions down from their site and make sure all your wires are connected correctly.

My guess is the starter cut relay is bad or the starter leads, [in or out] of the relay are disconnected.

What model of Viper alarm is it?

What is the MM&Y of car it is in?
Is the car an auto or 5 speed? 94

not sure of the model of the alarm. where can i look to find that out?

the car is a 95 integra gsr four door with a ls in it right now. might be the relay considering there is a relay sitting in the console when i bought the shell. im guessing he might have taken the relay out

i dont know much at all when it comes to alarms and there is a a hell of a mess of wires under the dash with the alarm so any help you can direct me towards checking into anything to help figure it out is greatly appreciated

Not exactly, and it depends on the model, you will need to find the alarm "brain" and get the model number off it.

Some DEI alarms have the starter cut relay built in and they can be wired normally open, [NO] or normally closed, [NC], NO means the alarm must be plugged in and working, NC means the alarm can be unplugged to "disable" the starter cut relay, [in other words the starter cut relay is not "armed" until alarm is turned on].

Some DEI alarm/remote start combo units use the same relay to remote start the car and as a starter cut relay and an anti-grind relay.

Other DEI alarms or alarm/remote start combo units use an off-board relay for starter cut and anti-grind.

Whichever one you have will be wired to the starter lead, not the ign. lead, "from the column".

Without knowing the model you would not be able to download an install, [wiring] guide, and you can't get that from the DEI site anyway.

The above assumes it is the alarms starter cut relay that is the problem, it is just as possible that the problem is unrelated to the alarm, it can just as easily be the cars starter relay, [5 speed] or A/T Gear Position Switch, [automatic]

Find the alarm brain and gert a model number.

Also, is your 95 Integra an automatic or a 5 speed? 94

Do you at least have the remote control for the alarm? You need to arm and disarm it somehow, you know...
If not, find the valet switch or go through the mess and remove the alarm brain completely.

i have the remote and i can unlock and lock it and arm it. I cant however use the starter on the alarm. Whether i use the starter or my key all my accesories come on. But in order to get it started i have to turn my key over all the way the take a screw driver to my starter from the bolt to the other wire on my starter. so it has to be something with the ignition right?

It has to do with the starter wire, it is unlikely to be the ign. switch or you could still start it with the remote.

Your problem is somewhere >between< the the ign. switch and the starter motor solenoid.

We already know the starter motor and starter motor solenoid are good because the bypass jump, [screwdriver] works.

So again it may be just a connection problem or it may be a bad relay, either the remote start starter/starter cut relay or an off-board starter cut relay or the cars starter relay, [A/T Gear Position Switch if it is an automatic].

Unless you get a model number all we can do is guess at what the problem is, with a model number we can at least tell you what to look for and where. 94
