As I recall it has to do with the size/# of bolts for the final drive.

i just ordered an obx helical lsd and im not seeing anything in the description that says its for any specific tranny. im building an ls tranny for the longer gearing third through 5th, hmmmm now you've got me worried, i'll do some research and see what i find. if anyone knows for sure that the bolt patterns are different on the final drive from gsr to ls please say so.

ok so after another look the gsr and type R are different than the ls. luckily i ordered the right one for the ls. so you will need to use the ls final drive if you want to use that specific lsd unit.

the gsr type r one takes 10 bolts and the ls takes 12 thats the difference.

Don't buy OBX. Take it from someone who sells parts for a living. They are very much a you get what you pay for brand. They have a fairly high failure rate, and I generally try to steer people away from them. Look at Quaife LSD's for something that will hold up and not shred your system.

There's a ton of ITR LSD's FS (not sure if it would work?) or snag a B16 trans with an LSD. That would be a winning combo for an ls car, unless you're turbo-ing it.

X2. I would never use an OBX part for anything important especially my transmission

There are tons of reviews on the OBX unit. I would give an opinion, but I havent paid much attention to them in a few years, so they could have "improved" their design and/or building process now. However, it is true that the Quaife's are better and stronger....however, it is at a cost. I think I saw a new Quaife on ebay for about $600 though, which would be well worth the extra money.

My friend bought a newer obx LSD used and just took it apart greased and retorqued everything. He did over 40 dyno pulls on it at about 800whp and its still good till this day.

Do as you please. But when it breaks, don't come crying to us for help. Just remember, I sell these things for a living, and have nothing invested in you picking one over the other. I'd rather save a month and have a few hundred buck more quaife etc then an OBX with known issues. Good luck op.

pretty sure the lsd synchrotech sells is a rebranded mfactory. mfactory is still good though.

mfactory is decent. Quaife is not 1k..we retail them around 700. So if someone is asking 1k, it's a ripoff.

mfactory is excellent, those diffs have taken serious abuse and lived to tell about it

personally i would use a used jdm itr diff before an obx. if i remember right the problem with obx is with clearances. some are good, some aren't. there are videos on youtube and an article that was written where the install was done. i can't remember what the exact problem with the obx diff was, just remember they recommended blueprinting the clearances before install

the reason i dont buy a jdm one is beacause im building a ls tranny for the longer gearing and they never made an oem one for the ls tranny, just gsr and type r, theres more bolts in the ls diff 12 opposed to 10 on the type r and gsr. im gonna give the synchrotech one a go just because they are wonderful ppl to deal with.
