Default Rear Main Seal Picture and Question

Had a little time to tinker today and got the trans off the engine...clearly, from this picture the rear main seal is leaking badly. It's covered in oil..sorry, not a great pic

I believe this is the second RMS, it's says "National" on it, which I'm assuming is not a honda oem...and likely a cheapo. I also believe the last person to replace this seal did not seat it correctly - one side is flush with the housing, and the other side is sunk down under the housing ridge by about 1mm - not much, but noticeable with the eye.

my question is, is there a specific depth for this rms? The hanyes says to measure the depth of the one I am taking out - which does me no good here. Any pointers, tips or info on this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

The seal should sit flush with the block, nothing more.

When you take the old one out you will see that there is a lip on the block side of the cover. The new seal should be pressed/driven in to this machined surface and sit flush on that lip. The seal will set approx. 0.5mm - 0.8mm into the cover/housing. Just make sure that the clearance should be equal all the way around.
