Default Need professional technical 5th advice

Experienced advised preferred but ill take any at this point. I have a 97 honda prelude and I'm pretty sure its not a cali car but i could be wrong (don't know what the difference is at this point)

anyhow I have been through hell and back getting this thing going as i bought it as a junker. to make a long story short the transmission shop got broke into and stole the keys. fast forward i bought all the locks, keys immobilizer and ecm from a guy and after the transmission was fixed (auto....yes i know) there is a p0453 code. Fuel tank pressure sensor high input. So i start digging into whether or not the ftps can be tested through the helms manual. here is the funny part. the helms manual only shows the sensor on 97 CALIFORNIA models and 98+. The location shown shows it to be directly above the evap canister next to the cruise control crap. My ? is where the **** is this thing or was this something not implemented till 98 and i may just have a 98+ ecm. thats the only logical explanation i can gather because I'm lost at this point. here is a pic of the firewall......if you can point it out then by all means.

Just looked through my Electronic Troubleshooting Manual, and you are correct: the non-cali '97 model did not have the tank pressure sensor. According to the ETM it is mounted to the firewall next to the evap canister (edit: see photo above). It's a standard 3-wire sensor configuration with a ground, voltage reference (probably +5v) and a return voltage back to the ECU, just like a TPS. Since you spent the money on an ECU & immobilizer, you could probably get around it by just supplying the reference voltage directly to that pin on the ECU all the time (acting like the sensor is fully active). I can post the wiring diagram if you want to go that route with the ECU pinout.

That would not work. The return voltage varies depending on fuel tank pressure. The ECU compares the fuel level reading with the FTP. How much fuel is in the tank will determine the amount of pressure in the tank. It is also used in conjunction with the EVAP system. The ECU runs self tests of the EVAP and expects the FTP to behave in a certain manner to determine if there is a leak or not. If the readings do not correlate, the ECU will flag a code.

Would it be possible for him to add these parts to his car so that the ecu could see them? Not very familiar with what's involved with this system but just a thought.

So basically my best bet is to find another non Cali 97 Ecu Immobilizer and key? Talk about a f-ing headache? Or buy a fuel tank pressure sensor along with the connector and pin it into the ecm.

Look at the manual, find out what the expected resistance is supposed to be.

Wire a resistor inline, be done with it.

Yeah the easiest route is the correct PCM. Look for the proper part number...

It's getting the immobilizer system with it that is the problem though. I suppose you could probably try a couple salvage yards around and see if they have any '97 Preludes. There have been a couple posts about immobilizer hacks in the past though for people who need new keys too. Supposedly there are some locksmiths who can reprogram the ECU for a new key.

I've also wondered about the bypass systems for remote start systems. I know DEI makes a module that learns the resistance from the key and sends it to the ECU for their remote start; it's cheap too on eBay (like $10). Honestly I'd probably try that first.

Hmm I never thought of doing that. But I would bet once you get in the car and insert the key it reads the key code from then on.....unless it just needs it to start and not run.

Anyways I picked up a fuel tank pressure sensor from a partout close by. We are looking for the connector for it now and if I can get my hands on some ecu pins I can just pin it in then be done with it the right way
