When doing my swap I took apart the speed sensors I had and took these pictures.

Here are the four I had laying around. The two d16a6's are from a 88-91 SI and a DX. The D16Y8 is OBD2 96. The B18CR is 98 spec.

 

Here are the three different gears, and rods. The d16y8 and b18cr are the same size, but the d16a6 is a lot shorter. The b18cr has larger metal gear.

 

I broke one of the gears off to see them side by side, and lined up,

 

Here is the speedo cable, and the d16a6 close up(right). The left one was me putting the B18 gear and rod in the hosing of the d16a6. The clip clips in to the notch on the cable, but doesn't work with the b18 since it is to long. There isn't enough room for the clip in if you use the b18 gear.

 

Here is the b18 sensor if you take off the top.

Additionally the b18 gear does fit into the d16y8 sensor. (2nd picture)

 

Is it possible to use the y8 gear in the itr trans?
