Auto to Manual swap on '96 Accord
I have a '96 Accord LX and I would like to swap the stock auto tranny with a 5-speed out of any other '94-'97 Accord. My questions are: How hard is this swap to do? How much will it cost, assuming I get the parts used? And, what other things will I need to get from the donor Accord aside from the transmission, clutch, etc.? I tried a search, but that came up empty, which is why I'm asking you fellow Accord owners for help. Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
well i got all the parts for 900 and the shop is doing it for 350 and they r gonna buy my automatic form me for 200 so they r basically doing it for 150. i called HAP recycling in cali and they wanted 575 for all parts shipped except the tranny and 1500 for everything with the tranny. that s carzy but u can get a tranny for 250 on ebay
Thanks for the reply and the suggestions. So far I would need the tranny (of course), clutch, pedal assembly, etc. But, will I need the computer out of the donor car? Or are there any wires I would need? Thanks!
not worth it. buy another accord or prelude.
i disagree.
swapping my car was the best thing i ever did.. HOWEVER i have a clue and did the work myself (save my father helping me with some welding i assed up since i wasnt so hot at welding then).
your computer is fine. only other thing you might look at snagging is the engine harness to the tranny.. i still dont have operating backup lights since 1998
all in all i got out about 250-300 dollars.

I'll be doing the swap myself. Well, with the aid of a friend of mine I should say, just for ease of installation. Thanks for the parts list though. It will really help when I begin searching for everything. Thanks!
i have an 88 accord and my dad and a couple of friends converted it from auto to 5speed in 2 days and they said that it wasnt that hard to do. it runs great too. but my car is 2 gens older than urs so i dont know wut u need to do it successfully
drill a hole and put an bolt and nut and spacer for the top bolt of the clutch pedal. I did this...had to remove the wiper cover outside the car to get the bolt in the hole i drilled.

Just a metal spacer of whatever length you need from a home improvement store. I think i bought a few different sizes and then cut one down with a hacksaw for a better fit. Good luck!
