Default gsr and itr cams

Im building an lsv with b18b bottom end and gsr head. Was gonna but itr cams but they're very hard to find and expensive, i head of people using the gsr intake cam and itr exhasut cam. is this a possibilty and if so would you recommend it or just stick with both gsr cams. I will be buying itr valvetrain also

I would stick with the GSR head stock and use the money for the bottom end, as far as itr ex. and gsr intake, idk.

Usually a bigger exhuast cam and smaller intake cam works good. Don't about that setup. Just save up for skunk2's or BC's.

ITR intake GSR exhaust is much more common than ITR exh GSR int

I'm surprised you are finding ITR cams to be expensive. Used ones should be fairly cheap. Of course you can also get BloxAs pretty cheap and those are good cams.

going rate for itr cams in clean condition is $300-350

not always easy to find either.

my advice if you just HAVE to stay NA is to use gsr or itr cams if you're making a driver. if you're after that extra 20-30whp from an "na build" just buy the blox c's, some 310cc injectors and a big *** header. set the compression around 11:5-1 and have a 200whp car

the drawbacks are

1. blox c's are more aggressive and you won't get 100k+ for mileage
2. the bottom end will go to 9500rpm which again means no 100k mile motor
3. slight decrease in mpg

what makes no sense to me with the B series are the "almost builds" skunk tuner 1s, blox A's etc.. you'll wind up spending just as much as using the C's and have 15whp or so less

the oem honda stuff is so reliable that i personally don't sway from it on the top end. there's a little more flex in the bottom end, mostly for forced induction but the oem top ends are just wonderful for a long life.

then again the way i see the b series is pretty simple: leave it stock or boost it. as for why?

* NA build = $3000 gains you 20whp
* top notch turbo setup costs $4000 gains you 120whp+

seems like an easy choice

When a person would want stage 1 cams:

- They want "drop in" cams for a basic from-scratch build like an LS vtec. These have all the advantages you ascribe to OEM cams and none of the disadvantages of pro-level cams. Find one example of a person whose had the life of their head reduced by using S2S1 vs. OEM.
- They want to add cams to a build with low (<11:1) compression, either because they don't want to mess with higher compression or because they are adding cams to a stock engine and don't want to do bottom end work.

Since a lot of people fall into those categories, I see stage1 cams as being a good option for many.

That said if I were building an engine from scratch I would go for 11.5:1 and S2P1s. But I can't see any reason to chose ITR over BloxA or S2S1 other than possible price.

That's what I meant, reading what he said mixed me up lol

That's how some DSM guys do it too. 272 intake 264 exhaust.

you still have to upgrade the VT, still step away from honda reliability. the stock gsr and itr bottom end can spin to 9000 just fine. yes it shortens the life, but, it's 9000rpm. i have seen crower, skunk and blox cams all snap in pieces, haven't seen it happen to an OE honda cam. since the stage ones at best make 5-8hp more than itr cams i just don't see the trade offs as being worth it.

I didn't think people were still having trouble with Skunk2 cams. But there have been a couple Blox snaps on the forum.

In any case OP is planning on 12.5:1 comp so speculation about cam failure may be a moot point. In fact at that compression maybe s2s2 or s2p1 would make more sense.
